first you will need a 16 ounce dixie cup with a hole cut in the lid and cheese cloth glued over top or you can poke a bunch of small holes in the lid but i find you need alot of them as humidity builds too much if you dont have enough ventilation.next you will need abag of superflt from repashy works best for this imo. mix about 2 inch deep in the bottom of the dixie cup. you will the need a perching medium i buy rolls of plastic mesh style gutter gaurd from the hardware store yuo could also use screen fold it up like an aqordian and insert it into the suprerfly mix at the bottom of the dixie cup you may have to cut the mesh to size so you can still get the lid on and taadaa you are ready for you maggots lol. what i did was i bought a culture of fruit flies that were already established and split the colony into three colonies and put them away for a week or so and then split the colonies again always make sure you have a minimum of about 12 at all times in each cup they will regenerate this way all on there own. i keep mine at tenps around 75 or so. hope this helps eveyone. any questions just pm me and i can fill in any blanks for you.i am now up to 10 cultures of 2 types of flies and ech culture has about 500 probably more in each not including there offsping that are covering the sides of my cups.
