First shed

Camo is shedding for his first time today. So far, only the skin on his head has come off, but he is starting to turn white in other places. I give him warm sprays every now and then to give him a little help, but it is very bad to help them by pulling skin off. They feel agitated by people when they are shedding because they feel like they are trapped. Getting your hand close to them will make them feel cornered and stressed, and that will make them lose their trust in you, depending on their personalities.

Just let your chameleon be in peace while it is shedding, except for when you mist it. It is not worth it to have an angry cham. Eventually, after a shed, your veiled cham's bright adult colors will show through, and that is very cool to see!

A downside to shedding is that sometimes chameleons can have a hard time getting the skin off of their tails. The dead skin can cut off the circulation to the tail and can make it have to get amputated. I have not found a solution to this because you are not supposed to help by peeling skin off for them (remember?). Ask around the forum, and you may get some answers from people that have worked and lived with chameleons for years and years...

Bye!
