Slugs or unfertilized ova and what they look like.

Species with females that give live birth or viviparous can also pass unfertilized ova. These are often referred to as slugs. Sometimes they only pass slugs or give birth and pass some slugs at the same time. This is similar to chickens laying unfertilized eggs with out the shell. These are from a jacksonii jacksonii. She passed 14 in total. They were varying sizes but the tend to shrink as they dry and fall apart if they get very wet. One has a bit of feces stuck to it. This can happen as they pass through the same orifice.

Yes, something like it. I lost one of my favorite girls after she passed a very large slug. It was more than double the size of a normal one. I didn't have the heart to do a necropsy on her but I suspect she either had another like it she couldn't pass or passing it damaged her in someway. Now I am super careful to limit their food intake.

Very informative and thank you so much for sharing.

My first chameleon ever was a female Jackson’s. I definitely have a soft spot for them but have avoided montane species since they need such a drastic drop in night time temps. This is really great information to know should I ever try my hand at a female again!
