Any Feedback on Reptaid?

A while back Chameleons Northwest posted something about a new anti-coccidia, anti-everything, supplement. (It also sounded like it would be good for "preventive maintenance")

I was just wondering if anyone has used it, and if so what were the outcomes.

I've been tossing around the idea of getting some

I have some Reptaid but have not tried it.

People I have talked to have very mixed feelings. Some don't think it did anything for them, other swear its great. I am very curious to hear honest encounters with this new supplement.

When I get a chance to try it on one of my guys I will give some productive feedback.

I am currently using it with three of my chameleons.

I bought it for Trucker as a possible health boost, as I felt he was not his usual self after an skin leision illness last summer. I had great difficulty injecting sufficient reptaid into crickets, but by switching to roaches was able to get the proper dose into Trucker. After only three days of the full dose he went into a full body shed (a very good, much needed, overdue shed). And his energy level did seem to increase.

I was also giving a lesser dose to two other believed to be healthy chameleons, who also did a nice full sheds soon afterwards, but I otherwise noticed no change good or bad in their behaviour.

Only a few days into using reptaid, Trucker happened to have then tested positive for pinworms (something that had never happened with any of my chameleons before, so a big deal for me). I stopped using reptaid and began panacur, simply because it is known to work whereas reptaid is simply reported to work.

However, I decided to continue the reptaid with both of the other two chameleons, one of whom might very well also have pinworms (I've not got results of a fecal back yet so Im not sure) and one who (so far) does not (according to the fecal done at the same time as Truckers).

If this third chameleon has a low load of worms, I think I'll continue the reptaid, at full dose for the recommended number of days, and see if it clears the issue up without panacur. I'll try to remember to post my experience with this chameleon, in terms of whether or not he does have pinworms and if the reptaid does help.

Im continuing the lower dose for the third chameleon in the hope it will help prevent or deal with possible exposure to pinworms. These three chameleons are housed close to one another, but not in the same cage obviously and I am quite good about hygene. But still, cant hurt to use the reptaid, eh?

So in summary, I believe I saw improved energy and definately attribute a good shed to Reptaid. I have experienced no ill effects. I will let you know if I get any evidence about pinworm control.

I recommend you have a look at the reptaid website, as there are several testimonials on there from other users of the product.

Reptaid worked on roundworms

I bought a new panther, runt of his litter. He was 9 months old and only 36g, but beautiful colors. We are calling him a pygmy panther, and he wasn't shooting his tongue. He would run up to the cricket and stick his tongue to it, then eat it. He showed up positive for roundworms just a few days after the Reptile show in Pomona where I met Elliot (but not Sandy:() and bought some Reptaid, just to have on hand. I started this guy on the Reptaid for 10 days, then 2 days off and repeated 10 days again. He tested negative for roundworms at the end of the treatment. He is starting to shoot his tongue farther- out about 2 inches now vs 1/2 inch. He eats like a pig and has gained 8 grams. I'm happy with the results and will be checking for worms in a couple weeks again.

Quick update
Reptaid DOES appear to be working to reduce (and hopefully clear up entirely) pinworms. I will try to remember to update this thread when more time has passed for treatment and I know for sure that it's done the job.

Update on roundworms

2nd fecal was negative again for worms. Reptaid did a great job! I used panacur 3 times on my Fischers before he was clean.

Second fecal of the animal who was treated with Reptaid for pinworms is confirmed clear.

As is the fecal for the chameleon who was treated with panacur.

I have an order coming this week to use on my Jacksons, since they are apparently WC when I was TOLD they were CB, so Im excited to try it out and keep my chams healthy!!

Q: Is NW Chams run by Gesang?

I ran a cycle on Skeeta and Pendergast a little over a month ago, and BOTH are enjoying a nice shed today. Even in the harshest part of the winter they seem to have more energy than I was accustomed to seeing. Don't know for sure about parasites, but as a tonic I give it a thumbs up.

One of our Brevs looked like he was on his way out (lethargic, eyes closed in the daytime, not eating etc.) so I started a micro cycle, watered down with distilled, and 7 days into it he is still around, MUCH more energetic and able to catch mini-crickets and silkies. The way pygmys go so quickly when they decline I'm truly impressed. (coincidence or no)

Cautiously optimistic here.

I used it on 4 different chams all for different reasons. I saw no change at all. One I was interested in a health boost for an older cham. Did the full regiment. Nothing. Had better luck with Phoenix worms.

Two chams were ok except one's color was pale. After a full treatment no effect. The other cham was probably healthy so there was no effect.

A young male Panther was going through a coccidia rebout and I just freaked and finally gave it Ponazuril. Since I didn't try to treat solely with Reptaid I cannot give a qualified answer if it has an effect on this parasite. The animal did lose its appetite and I gave it a full treatment hoping that would jump start his eating. No effect.

I am only stating my experience. I know others claim near miracle results.

I used it for a 4 mo old ambilobe who had a URI and wasn't thriving. Had his eyes closed and didn't move. After his daily dose of reptaide he picked up, opened his eyes and ate and drank just fine. He improved almost daily (I had to swab his throat out from the URI) but he improved to the point of being normal. I would recommend it.
