Wow! Popped Out Crazy Thing From Eye! (Long story)

Recently I picked up a new panther cham and he had a huge problem with one of his eyes...

I knew this before I got him and figured I could help the little guy out. Just needa alittle TLC.

And turns out, I did exactly that!

I ended up popping a clear lima-bean looking thing out of one of his eyes...

What I did to help Icy out was upped his mistings from 3x a day to 5x a day. Gave him Saline drops 2x a day for about 10 consecutive days, and hand misted him with hot water (comes out warm). I made sure he cleaned his eyes as much as he could for a good 10 minutes. Also used a Q-Tip to gently rub his turrets to break up anything that was inside. I also rubbed the area where it was raised/swollen.

The past few days I fed Icy some hornworms to make sure he was super hydrated and to make sure his eye turrets popped out like they're supposed to.

Around 12 noon today I hand misted Icy over the sink, kept a heavy drip over his eyes to allow him to clean them out. 3:30pm I noticed his lump was larger and looked like it moved a bit...So I took him out, re-applied his saline drops for #2 of the day then used a wet q-tip to gently rub the bump out. I took a chance while doing this because I didn't want to damage his eye, and I also had no clue to what I was really doing...As I started moving the bump I noticed something white inside his eye. At first I thought it was skin or his eyeball about to pop out so i pushed a bit more and out pops this weird white clearish bean lol. Once it popped out, I sprayed both eyes alittle more so he can clean them out.

I took a few pics of the thing that came out his eye, I also pressed it to feel the texture and it reminded me of a lima bean. Nothing was hard or sharp, I guess it was just a build up of something? Infection? Shed Skin? Not sure.

Just wanted to share my story, it's a bit long but i've been dealing/stressing out about it this past 2 weeks. I also toughed it out from a vet visit which saved me tons of money (vet quoted $300-$400). So i'll see how icy's eye does within this next week.

So far both eyes seem very firm, he's well hydrated, well fed, well misted, extremely active/alert, etc. I'm also waiting for him to shed so i'll be sure to upload some pics when the time comes.

*Anyone want to take a guess on what it was?

Also Thank you to everyone on this forum who helped me out! Amazing how much i've learned from reading old threads, PMing a few members, etc.

wow thats crazy!!! i personally have no idea what it is but that is very odd.. if i was you i would message ferretinmyshoes and ask her to look at this thread, she is a vet and she might have an idea what it is :)

Also note the current condition of the eye bigger then the other and is it closed. Had same problem before not getting into detail. But could be discharge from a infection what my panther had and went to the vet for meds betine sorry I can't spell it. Don't have it anymore that med.

Tada! You fixed him! Nice picture of it. It may have been a small abscess, as pus in reptiles is more solid than liquid, or it may have been a piece of debris causing inflammation around it. Kind of like how a pearl is made. The extra mistings/showers and saline drops loosened it up and allowed it to move out of the turret, as hoped. Hopefully he doesn't have any more problems! :)

Er...parasite?

Ferret beat me to it! haha

Discharge huh? That sounds like a possible answer. I'm sure thats what is was then if you've experienced it too. Were the meds orally? or eye drops?

You got that right, def don't want anymore problems lol...

Thanks for helping me out Ferret! Glad you're here to help. What would you recommend me doing? Keep the mistings up and stop with the drops?

"At first I thought it was his skin or eyeball about to pop out so I pushed more.."

lol
LOL I thought that was pretty funny myself.

LOL! I knew someone would say something about that line :p

Trust me...I thought of the craziest possibilities during the process lol. Their eyes are so delicate I was stressed out.

If you say squeeze as in gently rubbing it out with a Q-Tip, then yes haha.

I couldn't imagine having that stuck inside your eye...Poor guy!

That sound like a delicate operation.
Did he squrm around and try to get away from you, hissing and bitting??

that is really cool, i wonder if he got something small in his eye a while ago, like a bit of dust or something, and then his body secreted whatever formed that lima bean shaped thing around the dust to keep it from scratching his eye... like a pearl being formed in an oyster around a grain of sand!!!
