You will hear various ways of doing this.
The most important part of the transport is to keep her in a dark place, such as a small box. The box can have sticks to hold on to or make a bed of shredded paper towels. It really doesn't matter.
The basic idea of being put in a box is that they will sleep. That is the best way as she will not be over stimulated(stressed) by everything she would see if left out in the open.

I just had my first experience with transporting chameleons a few weeks ago. I also took me about 5 1/2 hours to get home. Heres a step by step of what I did.....

1st) I used 1 styraphoam ice box (which can be found in gas stations).
2nd) I individually placed each chameleon into it's own thin-cotton pillow case (make sure the sack/pillowcase you use is thin so that the chameleon can breath easily).
3rd) I closed the end of each pillow case with zipties to keep the chameleons from escaping. I used zipties to make sure the knot was completely secure.
4th) I placed a towel at the very bottom of the ice box to provide some extra cushion/insulation.
5th) I placed both of the pillow cases inside the box.
6th) I draped a thin beach towel over the top.

My DIY travel enclosure worked perfect. The chameleons did fine the whole time and were healthy and colorful when I arrived home.

I have used Petco animal boxes... Just walk into the store and take them :D

I then put two sticks or twigs secured to the box for the cham to perch on.....

I close the box and place in a closet so there is no light. After about 20 minutes your cham should be asleep. Place your box or boxes on the floor of the car near your feet. This is less bumpy than sitting on your lamp or on a seat in the back. You also keep the box secure so it doesn't slide around. (assuming you are not driving......) If you are driving put the cham on the floor up front for someone else to secure with their feet.. or brace the box if your alone in the car.
