So what are everyone's thoughts on this bulb? im thinking about getting it to replace my basking light. Does anyone use this? and if so what and how are your experiences/do you use it?

Good luck!

Do you also have a UVB lamp along with your basking lamp already?

I personally think these are not good for chams in cages. They aren't consistant in manufacturing and operation. People all around get different readings from the output and the focal point where your animal will bask can be quite hot in terms of heat.

Here is the write up on them on the UV Guide website. It seems the new 100w versions have much more output than the original versions of the lamp.

Well right now i have a Exoterra 10.0 Tube style and a 2.0 as well, so i was just really trying to make up for the exoterra mistake?

My roommate has a 5 month old male veiled, he was using the power sun 100 watt until he started to close his eyes during the day. I'm not sure if it was the light that caused this, but he took him off it about 4 days ago and changed to a regular house bulb. The cham still spends most of the day with either both or one of his eyes closed.

 Nevermind about that? or was it due to the age of the cham?

ON a side note its interesting that you say your roommate, so who got who interested in Chams? or was it pure coincidence?

I still am new to all of this but from what I have been told the best thing to use for a basking bulb is a regular house bulb between 40 and 60 watts.

It was him that got me interested at first. He told me he was thinking about getting one so i started doing a little research on the internet and decided i wanted one of my own. he got his about 3 weeks ago from a local pet shop and i picked mine up from a forum member on thursday

I have used these bulbs.

In the past, I though they worked pretty well and I liked them. However, I just replaced some of them and found out about the change in coating on the bulbs resulting in significantly higher UV output. I think I may be noticing some negative effects from this change after only 9 days. I will most likely be measuring the uv output of them tomorrow at the sbck meeting. We will see if I use them anymore.

At the current moment. I would probably recomend not using them until there is some indepentant research done. UV Guide UK is supposed to be doing some researh currently. I bought them before I knew they changed the coating on the bulb:mad:

You guys need to read this Link.

Hilikus311, Your 10.0 lamp from Exo Terra isn't so great... They aren't as good as the ZooMed. Since that is the case having the 10.0 is fine. If you had the ZooMed 10.0 I would suggest buying the 5.0 instead. As for the basking and the 2.0 lamp. Dump the 2.0 it is just wasting electricity. The heat lamp, your gonna want to replace, should just be replaces with a 50-60w household flood lamp you can buy at Home Depot. Or you can buy a Zoomed spot lamp.

So the exo terra 10.o isn't good enough/ healthy for my cham? or for that matter, any exoterra product (tube style?) is this what is being said by the site and you?:(

Operating a ZooMed Reptisun 5.0 along side a household lamp or a flood lamp for heat is the perfect combo.

The 10.0 linear tube from ExoTerra isn't as strong as a Zoomed 10.0 is. You are prolly OK operating your (if it is a tube... not screw in) 10.0 from ExoTerra for now. Just replace it after 6 months of use with a ZooMed 5.0. Then use the 5.0 from ZooMed for about 7-8 months and replace it again.

This is my male veiled's lighting:

Old setup pic... moved since the picture was taken. You can see the heat lamps over the cage next to the UV lamps.

Thanks. Yeah they are 5.0 ZooMed lamps.

Currently I operate one ZooMed 5.0 with a 'grow' light in each dual fixture.

I was metering my dual 10.0 fixture over my Melleri and it was reading 25-35 around the range at more than 24". This is with a reflector using aluminum foil. Pretty good reading for old and semi used lamps. Then again, they are ZooMed and last longer than the ExoTerra lamps.
