I didn't realize until yesterday just what my hornworms were doing.
They were eating each other because they ran out of food!!

I didn't know they would do that!
There are several half eaten worms in there, and it's gross!!

Worm guts all over!
I don't know if I should just throw them out or not!!
I only have a dozen left anyway!!

I actually had this happen to me a few days ago. I forgot to throw a carrot in there only to look in on them the other day to see a massacre. I was hoping to grow them to adults and start breeding my own feeders but now I'm down to three and I'm not sure if they will all make it. :(

Anyways I just washed my guys off, cleaned their Tupperware container, and added some carrot.

When you REALLY know you haven't fed them for WAY too long is when you see sets of little green eyeballs all over the container floor staring at you, screaming "WWWWHHHHYYYYY?:D

Nick

Haha, oh yeah they don't like being without food. You have to cool them if you aren't feeding them or they will eat eachother.

The first time I saw this I was horrified too!! Its so gross. It was a hornworm "newbie" lesson Ill never forget (insert puky noise), or the smell. Ugh.

Well, I just gave them the last of the hornworm chow!

Will they eat raw, grated carrots and Romain?
Even if they don't exactly like it, it seems better then chowing down on one of their own bro's

I just grabbed a huge one for Sméagol and it started nibbling on my finger!!

They were in there biting each other and like, thrashing around!!

I don't think I like these guyz very much, maybe just stick with silkies from now on.

They will eat almost any green or veggie. I have fed them greens, carrots, various types of squash, red bell pepper and sweet potato.

Dubias will do the same thing! I had a colony that had been neglected for months and there were not only still roaches in there alive but also babies! I just had a massive die off of hornworms. They ate most of their food in the cups so I put them into another container set up per Pigglett79 instructions on her blog and when I looked at them today they were all dead!

thats really strange. I havent had a die off of hornworms before. Were they still eating chow int eh container or were they eating veggies?

Well just looked in on my remaining three and it turns out the big one must have developed a taste for flesh because he just cannibalized the remaining two... I think I'll just flush the remaining one. Just in case it's a zombie worm.

Were they the little ones or the full sized burmese python ones. The large ones kinda creep me out. Middle finger sized ones, that is.

They started out only 1'' long, but since they do nothing but eat, and poop, it didn't take long for them to be giant, python size!!

I only have 2 chams big enough to eat them, and I am trying to get rid of them ASAP!!

And yes, when they get this big, you can feel it when they bite into your skin!!
Now, I am totally out of chow!! so will throw in some Romain.

Creepy little monsters!!!

Some where there is a roger corman b movie waiting to be made about them. They could link to the killer tomato movie. Say the worms fell off the plants when they were destroyed, and now they are attacking.

LOL!! I only had a few left, and they were giants! I coulnd stand the sight of them anymore and got rid of them!!
They had made a mountain of poop, and the butt end of one of them had been nibbled off
I'm never buying these again

I love those old 50's Corman flix. I think I have every one of them on DVD.
"Attack of the Crab Monsters" is one of my favorites :D
