well, they are hatching by the 100's - but :eek: my pinheads did not ! I am going to get wingless fr/flies today- do I just put them in a screen cage? they are so cute- and tiny :D it will be hard to feed them out to her- but as always- its all about Olive :p

Lucky Olive..congrats :).....I have kept 4 mantids and I don't know what the heck I done wrong but only one of then got big enough for Jasmine to eat. They were £1 each........off of Ebay.......so I'm not wasting any more money on them (maybe I'll get an ooth for when the babies hatch :)).
I wasted so much time before work last year trying to force feed my mantis with fruit flies....lol... they made me late for my crumby call centre job on several non-consecutive occasions....:D:cool:

LOL - tell me about it - my boss KNEW when I got my cham- she said" you are NEVER late for work- what kind of new animal did you get? " she knows me to well :p I am just going to put all these in one of my extra screen cages w/ all the pin head dirt, that shold be hatching any day- and all the fr/ flies- one big umberla plant- and let them do their thing- maybe I will get at least a few big enough for her to eat :D ( will she eat them now? should I try a few??- also, Olive has baby spiders in her cage- they just keep hatching-:mad: so I may put a few mantis in her cage just to get the spiders out)

My adult male veiled will eat baby mantids, so its worth a try. He likes the larger ones more, but he seems to like to try and catch all the little ones too.

but they are not like crix right- if they are in overnight will they bite her? but, it sure would be nice to get the spider babies out of her cage- I do not know where those keep comming from ??? :mad: last week she had one IN her nose hole :(

maybe I will try about 5 mantis? they are bigger than I remember them to be as hatchlings - I will let you know how it goes- I am at work now , so will pop a few in when I get home - also - do I need to keep them warm - or just room temp?
thanks :)

I've never had a biting issue. They will still grow at room temp, but they grow faster when kept warmer. Also be aware of cannibalism. When/if you start to see it happen, you might want to separate them into smaller groups with more room and always have food for them available to eat or they will cannibalize eachother.

Yeah....in my book they are just a bunch of triangle headed jerks......my second favourite insect after Dragonflies......
Maybe I will give them a second chance......it depends on finances a bit......:D

yes, I was kinda worried about them eating each other- THANK GOD I only let 2 of the 47 hatch !! :eek:

Yeah, I accidentally left out 10 or so one time thinking they wouldn't hatch that quickly, and boy was I wrong. They all hatched within 3 days and I had well over 2000 mantid babies running around. AND they weren't in a tub or anything so they were all over my house. They did eat the fruit flies that had escaped from cages though. Some people even like letting them loose in their houses so they will eat the loose crickets and other bugs.

LOL - thats mean :p funny - but mean :D
That's the way I roll.......if you don't like it you can feel free to report me.....I ain't scared :cool:.....lol...I ain't even been scared of Death since I was about 14...:D

That's the voice of experience talking.....not to assume the tone from your text......but what's the best smilie for your post?
I might go for :eek::D..........

wellllllllll I dont know how almost 1/2 of them seem to be missing :eek: while I was at work- they were getting out- I got home, they were all over the walls- floor, and steps - I do not know how they got out of the screen top- but they did- I put them all in a rep-ta-breeze- I hope to heck they stay in there- now I am worried that the 100 + fr/flies I dumped in are NOT in there either :mad:
but, I did toss some to Olive- SHE LIKES THEM- so now, I have a whole 2 things she will eat :rolleyes: she is such a spoiled bratty butt- lol but I love her :D
