Yahoo, hawk moths laid!

I never even noticed that before until today lol.... Ya his designs are way diff than the others ... I do havfe a couple though that Im pretty sure will be happening shortly though because their about his size

Ima have to get something set up....fast.... 0.0 If I put him in teh soil... will he dig his way back up? Will he suffocate?

No they won't suffocate. I have had a couple dig back up, I offered one food to see if it was too soon and he didn't take it and dug back under himself, another one I caught wandering around lol, put him back in and then he dug back under. Most of them stayed under. If you don't bury them you will probably have more wandering around. Your better off burying them, it won't hurt them

Alrighty! Then it is settles I will go dig some dirt..... crush it up..... and put it in a trash can..... and then leave them there? You think I should mist the dirt often?

I lightly misted every few days, after they pupate and you dig them up and put them 1/2 in the soil and 1/2 out lightly mist them twice daily so they don't dry out, but don't saturate. Good luck it has been a really fun project for me, I hope you enjoy it as much as I am:)

Ive been enjoying taking care of them since I got them! lol. Ok so I found some soil that was softer in teh back yard, do you think it would be alright if it has some rocks and a little bit of tree bark in it?

Mine seem to always leave the soil when I burry them. They come back up and dig new hole.

You can tell they are ready to start digging and what not when they start to scrunch up and look like they will pop. you can also just put them between some paper towels. It's cleaner and easier.

Yeah I read about the paper towels, and also in a soda bottle with a soda can filling up the center so you can watch the pupating process. I want to try both of those ways as well:)

I did notice they kept going underneath the leaves instead of on the sides of it to eat... like I have the enclosure full of mullberry leaves.... I dug up some soil but im not sure if it would be alright to put them in there with the rocks and treebark?

hmmmm I think I might want to try the soda bottle way... that sounds neat! I just hope theyd be able to get out thoug once tehy emerge as a moth...

You would remove them after they pupate. I will see if I can find the web sight I found that on and post it. I definitely want to try that way too next time.

Lol I guess today im full of DURrr moments XD. hmm we have a twoliter bottle in the refrigerator but its still like half full 0.0 Id get in trouble if I emptied out the dr.pepper >> I do have a gallon carton that I had water in but the sides arent clear clear like a soda bottle.... and I have my black garbage can I can put them in.... so I might just go with the gallon carton... Im not sure how long they will live if I keep them like that without putting them in the soil

Maybe you can put the Dr pepper in the gallon carton and use the clear soda bottle:confused:
