Where did you hear females need smaller enclosures?

Probably from me, and I stand by it.
I have found that they seem to feel much more comfortable and safe in an environment that is closer to 16x16x30 or 18x18x36.
I also cover both sides, primarily as a visual barrier from the chameleons next door but I think it also makes them feel secure.

What exactly is the cage made out of? In order for it to be adequate it must have very good ventilation - screen or mesh can work as long as it has no rough edges anywhere. You could always purchase one of those screen cages they sell at petstores or build your own. Do not use glass and plexi is not advisable either for certain reasons.

I hope that you do research for a while longer before taking your chameleon home because you will want to have the whole habitat set up before hand. Male veileds are easier than females because you won't have to worry about egg laying. I have heard of too many females dying eggbound from first timers not understanding the requirements, or not being able to read when it's time the female is ready to lay. Read so much that you understand everything there is to know before buying the chameleon.

Every 6 months you will have to change the UVB light, so keep that in mind that there is always an added expense a couple times a year. Please keep reading all that you can find about them!

Good luck and have fun :)
