Worried About My Female Veiled...

Hello all, I'm new to the forum and semi-new to the world of chameleons. I am posting because I'm worried about my female veiled chameleon. She is about 6-7 months old and I have had her for over 5 months. Based off of what I've read on here, I believe she either has eggs that she needs to lay or she's sick. She was a blackish color for a little over a week, then turned a vibrant green for 2 days, and returned to the black yesterday. She has not been eating very much all for the past week. Her stomach has looked a bit fuller than usual but I can not see any recognizable eggs and she gets very angry when I try to touch her belly. I woke up this morning to find her laying on the bottom of her enclosure so I went ahead and set up a laying bin for her in her enclosure just in case (using the guidance from this site). I put her in the laying bin and she has not moved ever since.. It's been 6 hours.. She has just been laying there. I'm really worried. Is this worrisome to you all? What should I do??

Welcome to the forums. I am sorry to hear about your girl. I would take her to the vet ASAP. Do you have a chameleon vet? If you don't, if you tell me where you live I might be able to help you find one.

Thank you for your reply. Yes, I have a very knowledgeable reptile vet, but her office is already closed for the weekend.. I will look to see if there are any emergency vet offices in my area with vets who are experienced with chameleons. So, this behavior isn't typical of a female who just needs to lay eggs?? This is my first female, and right now she's making taking care of my male seem like a walk in the park.

No just laying down is not normal behavior for any chameleon ever, especially for hours. If she does have eggs a normal healthy Chameleon will dig a deep hole to lay her eggs. It sounds as if your girl might be to weak to dig. Have you breed her? Can you post some pictures of her, the laying bin and her enclosure? I'm attaching a few links for you about females, egg laying and the laying bin.

To my surprise, she actually got up out of her laying bin and climbed onto a branch. So, I'm thinking she can't be all that weak.. Right? I have not intentionally bred her but I do put them in the same cage when I put them outside so I suppose it could have happened. I have never witnessed it though; they usually just stay on opposite sides of the cage. I will post pictures tomorrow as I don't want to disturb her sleep. Thank you for the links but I've actually been to all of those already. I've actually been on my computer almost all day because she's got me so worried:/ I really love my vet so I called her personal number for emergencies and left a message and am hoping she gets back to me tomorrow. If she doesn't, I did find an animal ER that will see exotic pets.
