Will too many clutchs shorten a chams life?

Hi guys,

Will too many NON FERTILISED clutchs shorten a chams life?
My female veiled has layed 5 clutchs so far, 2 have been fertilised. It seems she will lay a clutch with or without a male, so my question is, does an unfertilised clutch take as much out of her as a fertilised clutch? I try to let her rest between copulation but she has layed eggs in the past without me expecting her to lay them. I figure if she is going to lay them either way, I may as well have them be fertile. What are your thoughts on this.

Thank you
Dennis

The process of being gravid and laying eggs takes a toll on females. It really doesn't matter too much if they are fertile or not.

Keep her temps low.....no higher than low 80's and do not feed to much if you want to avoid eggs. The write up by Linda in Raising Kitty is excellent. Jann
