Will his cage be big enough?

I am planning on getting a baby panther and bought his cage today. It is 16x16x20. I was planning on keeping him in this until around Februaryan when I will be getting a 24x24x48. I just want to make sure that he will be ok in the small cage until then. Will it be big enough for him. Oh and what age will he need to start basking. I heard that as babies, they don't really bask. Thanks!
 
The cage will have more then enough room.
How old will the cham be when you get him?

If around 2-3 months, they will need a basking area.
 
Oh, ok. Thank you. I went ahead and got the clamp lamp for the basking and I got the reptisun 5.0. I just need to find a fixture for it. I'm getting so excited! My months and months of planning and information cramming is finally paying off and I'm getting closer to my baby!
 
I have one of my guys in a 16x16x20 and another one in a 18x18x20. They are both under 4 months old and works just fine. :) One of these guys is huge and might have to upgrade shortly... ;)
 
This is Fenix, my big boy in the 16x16x20. He's the one that will upgrade soon.

Seriously yea 4 months they start hitting puberty and could use the room to roam!
 
Eh, not really showing the guys off here, you can't really see them! :) Just showing how they can live in a smaller area comfortably. ;)

hmmmmm well depending on what kind of 5.0 you got you can easily get a 24in fixture at walmart for 10$ and put a 20watt in it
 
What kind of plant is that you have in there? I looked at one at Lowes today that looked like that. I almost got it, but wan't sure. I have not been able to find a fixture for the uvb light anywhere! I am starting to get frustrated! All I have left to get(besides little dude), is the fixture for uvb light, and supplements. Oh, and I need to get a plant. I got some rope and little dowel rods for him to climb on. I also will need to get some crickets. I'm thinking of ordering the supplements online. I really don't trust anything at Petland. I really don't want to give them any of my money. Perhaps I will be able to get the supplements from the same place I get my little dude. Still waiting to hear back from a couple of people. Haven't really made my mind up where I will be getting him from. There is a reptile show here on Saturday. I'm so excited to go. This will be my first!
 
Oh, the UVB light I got is 15inches. I can't seem to find a fixture anywhere that will fit that thing. Maybe that's why it was on sale! ha
 
I thought that's what it was, but there was a sticker that said costa. Is that the same thing, or did I just read the name of the farm or something? :eek::rolleyes: I'm clueless when it come to plants(obviously)!

read my upper post about fixture, and thats a schufflera or a umbrella plant
 
MeowKitty...I'm not sure if it matters, but my UVB light is 15 inches long. Every fixture I saw was either 12, 18, or 24 inches. Plus, they all had plastic on the outside so you can't see the bulb. Wouldn't that be counter-productive? Am I missing something and looking in the wrong places? I even tried looking at aquarium fixtures and didn't find anything. I don't know...it seems that they just don't have anything like this in my town? :rolleyes:
 
The fixture may be 18" in length, but it should take the 15" bulb? Check the package again. Also, you can pop the plastic off. Actually, you have to take it off to change out the bulb... ;)
 
I guess I know now why I got such a great deal on the bulb! It was in the 75% off clearance bin. :eek:

its probably a specialty item for like a fishtank cover, im sure you would be better off just buying another bulb if its this frustrating.
