Wild Insects

Thank you for this information and clarification!
They look very similar to some of the grasshoppers I commonly catch! Luckily, a little reading tells me the range of the lubber doesnt extend nearly as far north as Canada. phew!

I use a butterfly sweep net. I dump all the insects I sweep into the enclosure. I have seen my chams eat all kinds of crazy insects. I have seen them catch and spit out certain types. And I have seen them repeatedly ignore certain types of insects.

things they like: flies, moths, spiders, grasshoppers, mantids, leaf hoppers, damsel flies. they sometimes like bees.

Things they ignore: ladybugs, wasps, crane flies, beetles

There is a certain type of fly that looks like a housefly but has different wings and eyes, my young chams often zap these but always spit them out.

There are also some flies that look like bees (mimicry). My chams can recognize them and zap them immediately.

Chameleons are insect specialists. I trust that they can sort things out. Having said that, your situation may be different and there are risks. To me I think the benefits are significant and they outweigh the risks.
