why is my chameleon staying in the bottom of his cage?

for the last three days my male ambilobe has been hanging out in the bottom of his cage.i put him back on his branch and he will stay there for a while but eventually he goes back down to the bottom.could anybody tell me why he may be doing this?any ideas would be much appreciated.

could be to hot to roam in the cage which prob would be your best scenario or could be sick, hopefully a senior member will chime in but you are going to have to fill out the info sheet.

You need to work on your gutloading. That store bought stuff really isn't that good.
Find blogs from sandrachameleon about this. Fresh fruits and veggies should be fed to your bugs.

Supplementing- You should be dusting with a calicum without d3 every feeding, a calcium with d3 twice a month, and a multivitamin twice a month.

Are you using a UVB bulb?


Those thermeters may not be accurate. Try getting a digital one and checking your temps.

Are you using a UVB bulb? i forgot about the uvb.yes i am using one.i belive its a 20 watt coil uvb

How old is your uvb bulb?

They have to be replaced roughly every 6-9 months, as after this their UVB output decreases drastically.

How long is he spending towards the bottom of his cage?

can you post a photo of him and of his set up please?

How sure are you that this is a male? I know...you're sure, but I just have to ask...flirting with the bottom of the cage is often a female thing if you know what I mean....

I also had this same problem and when I did an online search I came across this post. After reading all the suggestions I figured out why my young female veiled chameleon was in the bottom corner of her cage. Turns out I left the cricket carrier just below the bottom corner of the cage and my chameleon could see it and was trying to get to the crickets. As soon as I moved the crickets out of sight she returned to her normal behavior. Not sure if you keep your live food near by but this could be the issue for you too.

your chameleon may be constipated or in need of a hot water bath to relax it
