Why is he shaking

Stormy was basking on his basking branch but then he started sort of shaking back and fourth?? I have noticed him so this a couple times today. Is this normal behavior or is it a sign of something bad? I can post pics of him if needed

Is he moving back and forth like the chameleon in this video? If so, it's totally normal. If not, a video of his behavior would be helpful.

Not exactly. He was basking front feet on one branch back feet on another, then started...shaking?? Not sure how else to explain it. It was kind of random. And only lasted for about 2 seconds.

The branches he was on started shaking too, because he was shaking them. It was very weird

Is he shedding? When my Cham is shedding he'll rub up against branches to get some of the skin off. Other than that, I'm not sure! Try and nab a video. You've gotten husbandry notes recently, too right?

Husbandry notes?? Sorry for so many questions ?

No worries. The how to ask for help form with all the questions about your enclosure, how you feed/supplement, mist, etc. You've already filled that out and gotten feedback from members here right? It's a long list of bullet points that can be found in the health forum on this site.

and he’s like doubled in size!! Or maybe he has shed I just didn’t notice it... ?

They shed fast when they're younger! :)

Oh yeah. Well I did fill that out a while ago not really any responses I can put it in this thread in a little bit

Your Chameleon - The species, sex, and age of your chameleon. Veiled, male, about 4 months now. How long has it been in your care? 5weeks
  • Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon? Never except when we put him in the cage. Letting him get more comfortable. Hand feeding daily to gain trust
  • Feeding - What are you feeding your cham? Mainly crickets, also BSFL, some dubia, wax worm or superworms. Looking to expand the variety as much as we can. What amount? Around 15-20 total feeders a day. (I feed him from a feeder run cup) Is this too much?? What is the schedule? Put food in by noon. Usually earlier. How are you gut-loading your feeders? With cabbage, kale, different lettuce, and some others that I really can’t remember. Some other more random stuff like a bit of fig or onion. Trying to make a good dry gutload recipe for them soon though.
  • Supplements - What brand and type of calcium and vitamin products are you dusting your feeders with and what is the schedule? Repticalcium without d3 6 days a week. Flukers repta calcium with d3 twice a month, and herptivite once a month, reptivite once a month.
  • Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? Misting only. Going to make a dropper in the next couple days though. How often and how long to you mist? We have an automatic mister that mists 2 minute every 12 hours. Do you see your chameleon drinking? We saw him drinking the first day but we haven’t seen him drink since then.
  • Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Brown with a completely white urate. The brown part is a little smelly if you smell it. Is this normal? Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites? No.
  • History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you. We bought him at Hewitt reptile emporium.
Cage Info:
  • Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) screen reptibreeze. What are the dimensions?24 by 24 by 48. Inch.
  • Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? 1 Linear 22 inch t5HO 10.0 (reptisun), and a heat lamp, not colored. (His eyes should be fine?) What is your daily lighting schedule? On at about 9 am, off at about 9 pm.
  • Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Floor is about 70. Highest actual basking spot is 85. Sometimes he will climb up the screen to get closer after he jus went on a walk around, or ate. Is this normal? Lowest overnight temp? Overnight is normally 68. How do you measure these temps? With 4 digital, small ones that show temp and humidity. One cheap analog gage, (which I know is not the best so that’s why we also got the others) and one digital temp gun thing.
  • Humidity - What are your humidity levels? Normally 50ish
percent in basking spot according to all 4 of the digital gauges. Humidity goes up to 60 percent in the cooler parts of the cage. Is this to high for him to be in for a couple weeks more? Have a cheap dehumidifier which is how I am able to even get the humidity that low in the first place. Also creates some breeze. How are you creating and maintaining these levels? Don’t need to create any. Naturally humid here. What do you use to measure humidity? As mentioned above 4 small digitals and one analog guage measure the humidity.
  • Plants - Are you using live plants? Yes. If so, what kind? One large money tree, one dwarf umbrella, one Pothos. Have seen bites out of the money tree.
  • Placement - Where is your cage located? In my room. Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? No fans or vents. I am passing through there multiple times a day. At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor? About 5.5 feet.
  • Location - Where are you geographically located? Seattle, WA

You know the routine, lol. Feedback in red.

Around 15-20 total feeders a day. (I feed him from a feeder run cup) Is this too much?? I feed my guy between 12 & 15 medium sized feeders daily...more if they’re small. As he gets older you’ll want to slowly cut back. What is the schedule? Put food in by noon. Usually earlier. How are you gut-loading your feeders? With cabbage, kale, different lettuce, and some others that I really can’t remember. Lettuce really has poor nutritional value...is mostly water. Some other more random stuff like a bit of fig or onion. Hmm...not sure about onion. Since it does have a strong odor and taste, I’d say skip it. Trying to make a good dry gutload recipe for them soon though. Attaching gutload graphics for you.

We have an automatic mister that mists 2 minute every 12 hours. Do you see your chameleon drinking? We saw him drinking the first day but we haven’t seen him drink since then. You could add another misting session daily. He has joined the veiled conspiracy to deny us keepers the cuteness of them lapping up water drops. ;)
  • Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Brown with a completely white urate. The brown part is a little smelly if you smell it. Is this normal? Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites? No. It’s always a good idea to have a fecal done to check for parasites.

What is your daily lighting schedule? On at about 9 am, off at about 9 pm. Unless your enclosure is really densely planted, you should be using a 5.0 uvb. @Beman may be able to offer different input here.
  • Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Floor is about 70. Highest actual basking spot is 85. This is a little high for a little one. Should be around 80*. Sometimes he will climb up the screen to get closer after he jus went on a walk around, or ate. Is this normal? Yup. If he’s climbing to top, make sure to elevate your bulbs so he doesn’t get burnt. Lowest overnight temp? Overnight is normally 68. How do you measure these temps? With 4 digital, small ones that show temp and humidity. One cheap analog gage, (which I know is not the best so that’s why we also got the others) and one digital temp gun thing.

Is this to high for him to be in for a couple weeks more? Humidity should stay between 30-50%. Do you have any substrate on the enclosure floor? If so, getting rid of it will help reduce humidity as well as provide a more hygienic environment.
Yup...perfectly normal. I suggest having a couple of plants on stand by as he may nibble them much more. Clip a piece of pothos, let it grow some roots in a cup of water and then plant it...free plant!
  • Placement - Where is your cage located? In my room. Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? No fans or vents. I am passing through there multiple times a day. At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor? About 5.5 feet. Ok...not bad.

So overall, things look pretty good with just a few changes needed. Do you have any pics of your cham and enclosure? I wasn’t able to see much in the video.

And also ok thanks for the feedback!! Tomorrow I can change the uvb to a 5.0, bc the cage has been less dense ever since I had to trim the great money tree. ? The basking is evelated a couple inches and I can lower the basking temp a tad. I do not have any substrate or any wood or whatever at the bottom, it’s just we’re in Seattle and the house gets pretty humid. On average 50 %. Not great. However we are moving and in his future location will very likely be more around 40 percent
