the way i see it, its pretty standard! a repti-whatever 5.0 & a basking spot! to my eye that seems rather dark. would you like to live in a dark little box? light it up! add more plant lights, go to a hydrponic shop! not only do they have lights but misting accesories too, see for yourself what is available! flouresent tubes, LED's or metal halides. put your enclosures in a bright sunny room! MORE LIGHT = HAPPY PLANTS (and chams). LIGHT IT UP!!

i totally agree friend. a regular reptiwhatever just doesnt cut it with showings. my girlfriend actually said the same thing today. "why do the chameleons look darker under the tubes?" regardless if you have plants or not, it deff wouldnt hurt them, and it brings out the colour so much more. i agree !0o% with you. agree so much that i had to make that look funky :p lol

Just be reminded that high intensity lighting can result in too much heat for some species and possible eye damage. Its not just the amount of light that is important, but the specific wavelengths...some parts of the spectrum are a problem for cham eyes. Also remember that almost all chams don't spend all their time out in open sunlight. They bask to warm up and then spend much of the day in partial or full shade of the forest understory. If you want to display your chams more clearly you could always use a temporary light on demand.

I thought the same thing, and got a 6500k daylight bulb for my plants. It lights up the top of the cage more and brings out the true colors of my chameleons. They can still hide in darker parts of the cages, but most of the time they're right up there at the top with the light.

As long as it's not harming the chameleon's health, or creating too much heat, it's fine to add more light in my opinion.

Yea, it doesn't produce much heat. Maybe 2-3 degrees. So I use a weak bulb for my heat spot, and that makes the warm corner a toasty 84-85*F.
