Who has the oldest Veil out there?

Hi All!!! My Veiled Chameleon is 13 today!!! I bought him spur of the moment at a little pet shop in Arlington WA for my now husband. I knew NOTHING about chameleon care and have pretty much "winged" it for the past thirteen years...he's amazing. Diet...Good quality gut loaded crickets. I also give him salad mix to eat. He loves it. I dust the crickets with calcium powder for supplementation. He lives in a glass aquarium with lots of branches for climbing. I have an uv light and a heat lamp on top. I mist his cage with water every other day and put ice cubes on top of his cage that drip onto leaves into a bowl for water. I rarely handle him~it stresses him out. He also enjoys the occasional spider and grasshopper. He's had some bouts with lethargy over the years but I usually give him extra greens water and crickets and he bounces right back. He has had one problem with not being able to stick out his tongue so I hand fed him crickets and he was fine the next day(calcium def?). So there! My advice...don't over do it. They are pets...but they are not "pets" ;)

Happy Birthday Ralphus! He looks great for 13. Please tell us all your secrets. I'd give anything if I could get my little man Luie to last that long.

Alid, just curious...did you take him out alot for outside sun? Also, how often do you change out your uvb bulbs?.

WOW!!! 13 years old! thats one heck of a goal to set for all of us! :D talk about the drive to live right? :) happy to hear hes living strong :)

Amazing! He looks very good for his age. Nice casque and straight limbs.
How old was he when you purchased him?

13 yr old Veiled...

No I don't take him outside...and I rarely handle him unless i'm moving him onto one of my large plants when I'm cleaning his cage. It stresses him out and i've always read that it's bad for them. His diet has always been mainly crickets every few days and good salad mix. I mist his cage daily and put ice cubes on top of his cage every couple days. His cage is in a warm(warm as in WA warm 60-70)office with a big window. He loves the sun. I don't change the bulbs until they burn out...heat or UV. He has slowed down a bit recently so I added some giant meal worms to his diet(he loves them and they are easy to catch;). He also drinks water from a bowl and lets me hand feed him crickets...pretty good little guy. He is about 18 inches in length.
As far secrets or tips...the only thing I can say is don't "over" care for them. I'm absolutely NO expert...but I have a happy ancient(haha)friend!
Does anyone have one as old as mine?! Or heard of one living that long? He's still doing great! :)

hi!

My male veiled chameleon Peppy just turned 8 years old yesterday. I rescued him from a pet store for $20, they were gonna feed him to the snake. He is now 8 years old and doing great! He's the most awesome creature and shows no signs of ever stopping. I take good care of him and he's very social, he loves to watch TV and has the full run of my living room. :)

What kind of snake? They would have been completely moronic to do so because this is one type of lizard you wouldn't want to feed to a snake. Anyway, nice pics :) especially the Santa hat one lol
