White Speck on Nostril?

My 3 month old cham seems to have a white spec of something on his nostril on his face, the other side looks normal from the pics I have seen but on one side it appears to be white.

I read it could be due to oversupplementation, but I have only had him a week only given him calcium 3 times so far, no d3 or multi yet.

Any ideas what this could be? Can I try a wet qtip and gently wipe his nose, to see if it clears it up?

White crusts on the nose are a totally natural excretion of excess salts (not calcium). It's completely normal but if you're really concerned about it you may want to use filtered water for his drinking source. If you want to gently wipe them off that is okay, but there's no harm caused by their presence.

For supplementation you should be using calcium (no D3 or phosphorus) nearly every feeding and the others only twice a month.

I am using tap water, our here in AZ we have really hard water, so maybe I should only use bottled water for his misting and humidifer? I can grab a gallon of water today from the store to use.

I read online that I am supposed to use Calcium (no d3) every other day, is that not correct? I can do it daily, that is not a problem. I want to make sure he stays healthy!!!

As adults I think every other day is just fine. As a growing baby I would say use it every day because his metabolic rates are higher and he's developing the bone structure that will last him the rest of his life. Calcium is huge part of proper growth and development, and excess is easily excreted as long as it's not excessive so it would be my recommendation to use it every day. Remember your feeders should only be lightly dusted so they're just a lighter shade of brown, not little ghosts running around!

Good to know, thank you for the reply! I will start supplementing everyday for right now.
