I'm sure I have read about this before but could not find the thread.
Bill is eating and drinking fine however he has some white spots on his nostrils, am I right in thinking this is calcium? If so should I reduce his intake?

Hi,

The white spots on his nostrils is effectively an excess of calcium or mineral who is rejeted. You can a bit reduce your calcium supplementation. ;)

You're probably seeing a build up of salt that has been excreted from your chameleon's nostrils.

I would not suggest a reduction without knowing more data.

We have seen some claims on this forum, but almost everybody is agreed that reducing calcium is not a good idea.
All evidence suggests that it is excess salts, calcium having not yet been found among them. It is natural among many lizards to do this, and is not any kind of indication of ill health.

On my adult cham, when i give too much calcium, the nexts days, i remark this white spots...
I'm agree that the calcium is very important but, when you know well your pet, you can find the right middle.

Try upping your misting. Not only will increasing how much he drinks help, having a chance to wash it off will help. It's not harmful, so there's no reason to take excessive measures to make it go away.

This is true, but we don't know how much calcium this cham is getting ;) And we can't prove it is calcium, this is circumstantial evidence so we just don't know.

While this is here...

I read before that they will kind of 'Huff' to remove excess salt/calcium. I described it as sneezing first but this is normal right?

I had the same with my Cham when I first got him, I was told its an excess of salt etc and it's the bodies way of getting rid of it, he might try to wipe his face on leaves/vines to get rid of it. So I changed to bottled water or filtered water and it cleared up! So funny how I take more care of my chameleon than myself! I drink straight from the tap and buy my chameleon bottled water - pha! :p
