Which roaches to get?

Hey guys,

I'm looking into getting into roaches because crickets die to fast, smell, and are loud.

I live in Florida and would like to get into Discoids or True Death Head roaches.
Anybody have any ideas which I should get? Also, is there much of a difference?

Discoids are good, so as dubias. Discoids are bigger I think. Both can't fly, jump or climb smooth surfaces, easy to keep and breed. Go with either, really.

Discoids are really close to dubia. Since you're in FL and you can't have dubia, I'd go with those personally.

I also recommend Turkistan roaches, there very active little critters like crickets but like other roaches have a better calcium intake

They look closer to crickets and arnt glass climbing, very good feeder, I have a couple of thousand of them. They arnt live Bering like dubi they lay eggs so they produce alot more young this way and you leave the eggs in there with them they hatch them selves

Can they fly? And has anyone bred Discoids? How often do they lay?

Purebred discoid breed slower than the hybrid B giganteus/B discoidalis CB in the hobby. I have both the hybrid and the purebred B. giganteus and aside from my lobster roaches the hybrids breed quickest.

And no, they do not fly. The only roaches that I know of that fly that are also in the hobby are P. nivea.

Purebred are the black winged Discoids? An hybrid are the white winged Discoids?

I don't know why but if you feed your Discoid and Dubia roaches slices of Orange it will increase there breeding rate. I read this trick a few years ago and it really works. They also breed best when the temp is in the mid to high 80's and they get a good spray daily to keep humidity up. Don't over spray because you don't want them wet.
