Which Roach Species?

Man, if my mother even knew I was participating in a "which roach / bug is better" she'd probably cancel her trip up for Thanksgiving. I have to remember to be careful and only call them dubias, while she is in the house.

I've just been calling them 'beetles'. I feel like this makes them less gross, even if it somewhat inaccurate.

I just use their common names and leave out the roach part, so dubia, red runner, etc. Makes it less of a creep factor to me!

Some one on here called them Dubia beetles like @mae_day said so I have stuck with that and tell people they are just larger Rollie Polly.

It's just a jumbo rollie-pollie! It almost sounds cute!

Orange Heads do move faster than Dubia, and are worth switching to. Red Runners are as fast as, and the size of, adult crickets when full grown. Ivory Heads are the same as Orange Heads, but seem to like coco fiber to dig in, where Orange Heads are fine on vertical egg flats. Red Runners, Orange Heads and Ivory Heads don't climb smooth surfaces, where Green Banana adults do climb smooth surfaces.

I think red runners have a chance of investing in Southern California so I will stay away from them. I can't find orange heads but might order some to try.

Red runners apparently can infest homes just about anywhere. That's why I wont use them... I am way too sloppy.

if its a bigger one, they are good for stick insects as well. I think mine is 2' tall... maybe 30" and It does an ok job for Vietnamese sticks.

I think the Red Runners won't be INVESTING in Southern Cali!!
