im getting a screen cage 4 christmas and i was wondering is it ok to leave the heater sitting directly on the screen r does it need to be raised a little so my cham wont burn herself

It depends on the type of cham, the wattage, how cold the room is and how big the cage is.

Generally speaking, a cage with a minimum heigth of around 2 ft. and a room temperature of around 65 to 68, a 75 watt bulb would be good. If you have a Jackson, maybe a lower wattage. In this case, the heat lamp could be placed on top of the screen.

Well you aren't giving us any information for us to tell you where to go. You DO need to know watts, unless you want a cooked chameleon for dinner.

No syn, you DO not need to know watts, as long as you have a thermometer and know the temps.

I always tape a few dominos together and put them undermneath the light so it is somewhat suspended and it is impossible for your cham to get directly under the light.

The whole dominoes thing that Danny said really works. I did that with Clea awhile ago because she always hung out under the basking bulb and i mean literally under it, and i gotta say it worked really well.

I have yet to see anything about him using a temp gun in his posts. *shrugs*

the heat lamp is on a themostat and i have a digital thermometer all i wanted to know will it do anything to the mesh and will it hurt tec chameleon even though she dont climb the mesh

As long as you have strong mesh it should be fine, but it's better if you have it above the mesh just to be safe. What are the temps like in the basking spot?
