Where to find Jacksons on Kauai?

I am going to Kauai this coming week for a little R&R with the wife and kids and was wondering if any of the Hawaii members could direct me to a hike or part of the island that we might be able to see some Chams in the wild. I know the kids will get a kick out of seeing chameleons in the wild, and other than sitting on the beach we have nothing planned.

I am really bad at spotting wild chams. I have been to many different Islands over the last 2 years and have managed after hours of searching and trekking to see 1 Jackson on Oahu even after doing many treks. The little buggers hide really well.

If you do manage to spot any please let me know so I can go there in future trips. Enjoy your holiday

Check out CNorton's blog he has a post about getting engaged and has pictures of chams he found along the way. (not sure if he mentions the trail by name though) but I am sure he wouldn't mind giving you the beta.

I do have friends that have relatives there so I will ask around for you. The are not into chams but usually locals seem to know where they are.

Also any tips for where to go on Oahu? Will be visiting this winter and really want to find "wild" chams!

Manoa Falls which is not too far out from Waikiki. There is a great waterfall at the end so that trail is worth it alone.

Take bug repellant and good hiking shoes and don't go on a day where it has rained as it just turns into a mudfest and in some parts its quite difficult to navigate in slippery mud and red clay. I spent far too much time on my butt covered in mud as I was too busy looking in trees for chams.

Pali Lookout which is a bit further out but is a spectacular lookout and a popular tourist spot.

When you get to the top of the lookout on the right hand side you will see a trail that leads behind the mountain to a small road that is closed/gated (not private property) and is accessible and I saw many locals just gathering guava, fruit and flowers and tourists walking it.

Its paved and ok to walk (a bit overgrown) and goes down the mountain. Look there and along the way.

When I was there it was raining and cold in both spot and that is why I didn't have any luck but I spoke with a friend that lives there and they are in
both spots.
