When will this frigging cricket die:@

My cats catch all my escapees and eat them (yuk)!! But I suppose they wouldnt be much good if one got under the floor boards!!
 
Yeah my cats will eat them if they can get them but this ones right under the floorboards!
 
SOO close to getting him! I pulled his back leg off and he got away damn it! Will he still be able to churp?
 
I had a cricket under the floorboards in my living room once, it made it all the way from upstairs, down the stairs and down a hole next to a radiator. In the end managed to hoover the little bugger out! after 2 or more weeks of chirping!
 
I've nearly caught him about 4 times now. I just pulled his back leg off. I'm trying to lure him back out with a lamp but it's not working, he's not chirping atm, maybe he's moved on?
 
his hind legs creates the chirping, they rub there hind legs against the body/wings for there sound.
 
The legs have nothing to do with the chirping. If you could manage to pull off a wing you would be in business. :D
 
I realise that now as he is chirping like normal in a different spot. I swear i'm going crazy. I can't take much of this.

They're not interested in reptiles or humans, they hunt much smaller prey (like evil escaped crickets!) I wouldnt recommend picking one up and playing with it, as the bite would be irriating and likely hurt some, but you certainly wont die from it (unless you've a very weak immune system). At least, not the types that live in my area.
 
My dad just caught a chirping cricket downstairs, don't know if it's going to be the one i'm after but i bloody hope so.

get a glove and a net at the ready lol :p... we had the same prob with one of our crickets and it was the noisiest thing ever! it eventually crept out from under the bed when it was quiet and we managed to catch it lol :)
 
what do you guys think are rubbing against the wings? its the barbs on the hind legs.
 
Crickets do not rub their hind legs together to chirp. The left forewing of the male has a thick rib (a modified vein) which bears 50 to 300 ridges. The chirp (which only male crickets can do) is generated by raising their left forewing to a 45 degree angle and rubbing it against the upper hind edge of the right forewing, which has a thick scraper (Berenbaum 1995). This sound producing action is called stridulation and the song is species-specific.

I agree man... my computer used to have 6 cooling fans and i left it on 24/7..... I am so used to that sound that i feel weird when its off. but no way can i sleep with a TV on :mad:
 
We have an air cleaner that we run at night that makes some noise. It really probably doesn't do anything but if it is quiet every little noise wakes me up. I can't sleep if the TV or radio is on. With a radio, I will fall asleep during a song but when it changes I wake back up again.
