When to move up to a 60W

When should I bump Kuzco's basking lamp to a 60W? His temps stay pretty constant at 85.

He is always dark, so I think he is cold but since he is so young I don't want to cook him.

Also I thought that live plants help with humidity? I have 6 and now it seems I am having a harder time keeping them up. They have dropped as low as 25%, but when I mist go as high as 90% and tips??

If Kuzco's a panther 85 is a good basking temp for an adult panther. I have panthers and veileds and never use higher than 40 watts because they keep by guys at the appropriate temps.

Okay I will keep it then. :)

I have another question... I bought a grow light for my plants today that is a 65W, but the lady at Lowe's wasn't too helpful. Is 65W the same as 6500K?

The 65W was reading at 165 degress F  is it going to roast him?!?!

No, wattage and "degrees" Kelvin are not the same thing. K, or Kelvin, is used to measure color temperature. Wattage is the energy used to power the bulb. So a 6500K fluorescent can be only 15w, it makes no difference in the color temperature of the bulb.

But that's why I like using (specifically 5000K) fluorescent daylights because they add a lot of brightness to the cage without adding really any heat.

And YES, 165*F will definitely cook your chameleon.

Okay I thought they were different but the lady at Lowe's cut me off and walked away :( I will go back and get the 15W!!!

I thought it would so I didn't use it! I was kinda upset with the lady for being so impatient!! Thank you for clarifying!

I have another question too! (I feel like a noob...haha)

I'm having problems with humidity. It is too low, but I have 6 live plants in there and mist 5 times a day! I bought the Mist King and hopefully i twill be here within the week but what to do until then??

What are your readings throughout the day?
It's ok if it doesn't stay at a perfect 80% ALL day long, it's ok if it drops very low for a few hours during the day. Especially if the chameleon is drinking and soaking 5 times a day, I think this is enough to keep their skin, eyes, and hydration level healthy even if the humidity is at 20% a few times during the day.
