When He Grows Up

I know he should start eating less as he gets older (He's 4 months old now...) but WHEN is "older"? I always assume a year, but I dont want to assume!

AND how much does it get decreased?
I heard they only eat every other day, && right now he's eating 6-9 crickets a day + other live feeders (dubias, phoniex, meals, etc.) Do I decrease the amount, OR do I just feed every other day, OR both?

Thanks :)

Hello again :) - I already gave you some info. on that.....do you want me to post up the caresheet again? I have a few links bookmarked that I like to recommend.......
or were you looking for other opinions?

I guess the real question im asking is "When do they mature completely?"
Sorrrrrrrrrrrrrrry- you know im just a huge worrywart!

I know a chameleon keeper when I smell one...... Paranoia just doesn't come close :D
He will go through puberty at around 7 months old - the 'terrible teen' phase in male Veileds lasts a couple of months and means a bit more territoriality and/or aggression.
He can be considered a proper adult at around a year, but the caresheet (part 2!) recommends cutting to every other day feeding at around 5 months. I waited until 6 months personally and then I had a bit of a hunger strike issue with Rinty (slight waxworm addiction - they were the only things he would come near me for so I went a bit over the top. No more waxworms for him now....).

Hi, don't wanna steal the thread, but would you recommend the same for a panther? I've noticed there are different opinions when to start cutting their food intake ;)

Thank you David. You are the bestest Godfather ever! hahaha.
ALWAYS putting my mind to rest. Thanks for being paitent with me, im sure you can remeber being "new" and being seriously AFRAID of making the wrong move.

I never kept a panther, but they are similar sized and grow at similar rates so I would do pretty much the same. I prefer to go by feel than going by the book anyway (anyone get the rock and roll reference?)........different opinions can still work just as well because, like people, chams all have different metabolic rates. I am lucky that I can eat as many burgers and desserts as I like - no chance of me getting fat :D:cool:

I'll jump in here about the panthers. What I've done is around 6-7 months I stop feeding daily and go to 5-6 times a week. Then, around 1 year I cut back to every other day. Seems that as soon as I get everyone on the same schedule I go and get a new baby and am back to daily feedings. :D

And Dave - you give fantastic advice, but for this, I hate you. If you would be interested in a fat donation I have a couple of love handles that I'd be willing to part with. :p

Haha, but no thanks - I just love making all the girls jealous :D

STEAL AWAY!
Pick Davids brain like I do- so I don't feel as bad! haha. :D
lol sorry ;)
