Wheezing help!

So I got my first chameleon 3 months ago now. She's been perfectly healthy and has barely hade concerned until today. She was drinking some water then all of the sudden she starts to wheeze every now and then which is killing me with worry! I did take her out right after just to see of she maybe took a little too much water and she wheezed once and not again after.

Cage size: 16x16x12
Basking: 85-90 day 80-85 night
Lighting: 5.0 repti sun uv bulb ran for 10 hours and 60w basking bulb always ran for the chams option.
Size:3 1/2 inches
Feeding: Dusted crickets every other day , regular crickets everyday with a couple wax worms every 3 to 4 days. Along with Romain lettuce and porthos leaves clipped in the cage.

There's a few things I'd like to comment on. First, assuming your Chameleon is at least 4 months, she's probably already too big for that size of enclosure. I would suggest looking to move her to her permanent adult cage. For a female Panther, an 18"x18"x36 is the minimum.

Your temperatures need adjustments. Her basking spot should be around 85, 90 is way too hot for a Panther. Nighttime temperatures should dip into the mid 70's.

Your crickets should be dusted with Calcium WITHOUT D3 at every feeding. Calcium WITH D3 every two weeks, as well as a multivitamin every two weeks. Try to limit the waxworms, they should be used as a treat. Panther chameleons do not eat greens/veggies like other types (veiled chameleons) so you can remove it all together.

If the wheezing occurred shortly after drinking, it could be that she had too much to drink and was just trying to clear her throat/lungs. If it continues for a long period of time, you can always try to your local reptile vet just to be safe.

Wow thanks a bunch wowbango! Though she's still small for a bigger cage just yet she's only under 4 inches and will get her one this week and was just introduced to eating medium crickets in the passed 2 weeks and had taken them no problem except the larger ones which she seems intimidated by so I remove those(should have said that before). She really has plenty of space still. Also the basking stays under 90 and has only reached that high on summer days as for I live in california in the San fernando valley so I keep the house ac at 78 for those days and vents in my room closed but a ceiling fan on as well to keep the average temp and to give fresh air. And as for the vegetation I know that some down and some do with the option. Mine does want vegetation cause she bites at her fake plants trying to rip a bite off which is why I implimented the Romain lettuce and prthos( porthos which I grew which 100% organic soil which I was told it was good to do by multiple of my local reptile shops.

Is it wheezing or hissing? Sometimes they will express their displeasure by hissing.

It was most certainly a wheezing sound. I do have snakes in the house and know a hissing when I hear it and know to give them their space :) but I'm happy to report that the wheezing had stopped 15 mins after it stated. Little girl had me worried
