I have a baby veiled chameleon. I've had him for about three weeks now. Ever since the first day I got him I've noticed his left eye was closed and a week later both eyes were closed. Both eyes are displaying a grey color when open. He's not been eating very well. He would go without eating for a couple days and just stay in one spot without moving for days at a time. The setup I currently have for him is a screen cage 18x 18x 36", vines, ficus plant ( pesticide free), zoomed powersun uv mercury vapor uvb lamp, and a constant dripper system. Also I mist the cage about 2-3 times every day. He is feeding on small crickets and small superworms. Temps are 80-85℉ cool side and 90-95℉ basking area. Humidity is at 40-50. Im just really concerned about my baby veileds health. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

95 is too hot for a baby. How old is he? I would lower the temp however you can to like around 85 degrees basking.

I don't know about the eyes, but he sounds sick. Maybe get him to a vet?

The powersun is a combo uva/uvb and that just might just be too much for his eyes. I would get a 5.0 tube light for uvb and a regular white housebulb for basking and keep your basking temp in the low 80's. You can play around with the wattages to achieve the temp you want. Also, do you take him outside for natural sun? You live in Fla and should take advantage of that. You said his eyes were gray when he opens them? Sounds like he could have an infection. I know it is late, but could you post some pics of him tomorrow.?

im not a professional..but he looks thin and there is something going on there with the eyes.a vet visit is definitely in order.

Ok first off I'd like to thank everyone for getting back to me and replying to my post. I took my little one to the vet. Sinus infection is ruled out so I was happy to hear that. As far as the eye problems the vet told me that it's possible he hurt himself on the screen cage due to the mercury bulb being to strong for his eyes. It's now been two days without the mercury bulb. I've been using and regular white house light bulb and a 5.0 uvb bulb. Thank you carol5208 for making that suggestion to me the first day I posted this. His left eye has completely opened up and the right eye is starting to get better as well. Also he's very active at this point. I will still continue to keep everyone updated and once again thank you all for your support and helpful replys

yea I think you need a new vet.

The eyes are not normal, even if they are opening, they are puffy and baggy looking, which is not the normal shape for a veileds eye turret.

I still think there is an infection going on.
