what would you do?

i went to a pet store this weekend, that i'd never been in before. they are mostly fish with a few reptiles and spiders and snakes. apparently the are VERY uninformed about the care of these animals. they had a screen cage about 12 x12 x18 with 3 female and 1 male veiled chameleons in it. they said they were about 9 months old. they were all very stressed based on their colors and the floor of the cage was newspaper and a layer of mulch, i thought till i looked closer and realized that it was just a TON of poop that was drying out. there was also a dirty bowl of water in the back of the cage. there was a sign on the cage "$75 for one or $250 for all 4." if that wasn't enough to upset me they had a "chameleon setup" all put together, supposedly all you would need. it started with a 10 gallon aquarium, long type bulb, water bowl, etc. i feel like i should have said something at the time but i'm afraid it would have been angry yelling. i think i'll print off a ton of care sheets and mail them to the store. what would you all do? aside from never setting foot in that store again!!!!

If you have any friends who write newspaper articles, have them write an article about the store. Get your vets involved, call animal control, then sit back and watch.

This is only if all the animals are in terrible conditions. First you Should calmly and politely tell them that their animals would be better suited in a different type of set up.

I have written emails to a couple pet stores about the conditions of their animals and usually, even though they are naive, they are open to information. It's unfortunate animals need to suffer at the hands of the un-educated, but if you know something they don't; share the wealth. If they are un-willing to accept, then take more drastic measures.

Thats better than stores here, they all have them in glass aquariums with few limbs and use water dishes...do not mist. I nearly cried seeing them after all the research i did. I tried to talk to one of the employees, but it was no help

I would agree with the above write an email and things to the store or even go talk to them if you can confront them, I am not that type of person! Let them know the wealth of knowledge you have about the situation. You may be surprised and there may be a change in the situation, sometimes all it takes is one voice and a difference is made! Whatever you choose good luck with the situation it is sad.
