What UVB hoods...

Do you recommend? I have been using r-zilla 50 desert series and just found out to my horror that it is likely the reason why molly's eyes are still bad. I am going back to the store tomorrow to return it but I want to know what other hoods there are. I bought it for $18 and hopefully I get all my money back(if not they are going to have an ear full) but that will be all the money I will have as I am currently broke (lost one of my jobs). Any suggestions as to what I should buy?

I am using a 24" reptisun 5.0 bulb in a 36" enclosure. It kind of looks like one you would set on top of a fish tank. The minute I made the change to that my cham became much more active. I paid $66 for the light fixture itself though.

My fixtures came from local hardware / home supply type stores. usually less than $15. I've mostly used Repti-Glo 5.0 and 10.0 tubes, and recently ReptiSun 5.0

i got a 20" good with an 18" 5.0 tube from LLL for like $35 i think. The bulb itself was 15 if you already have the hood

No, do not get a compact bulb. There were severe issues with them in the past (causing blindness) and none have yet been proved safe that I know of.

your existing fixture, if it takes a T12 or T8 tube, may be fine. it might be the light tube you are using in it that is the issue?

here are some pictures of fixtures I use

No that has been known to cause problems with reptiles eyes.
Here is the source if you want to read up on it, http://www.uvguide.co.uk/index.htm

The fixture your looking for looks something like this(was just a quick search)
http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=52479-13537-52479&lpage=none
they have these everywhere and you can get 18'' ones that have one TUBE light fixture for like 10 dollars.

You have the right idea with what kind of light bulb but the type is wrong you want something that would fit into the fixture as mentioned.
I believe that you have one of these fixtures because your desert light looks like a tube one. if it is a tube then you will be able to just get a different bulb and be fine. The bulb you need is like this (another quick google)

Hope that helps, and if not you can ask more questions.

I just got done digging through Walmart.com looking, but I'll be damned if they have them there. They have cheap floro fixtures in their stores. Prices may vary by region but at mine the cheap ones are 18 inches for $6.50 and the 24 inch ones are $7.50. Go get one of these, they are T8 fixtures and work with the new reptisuns that are also T8s. You can order from LLL (site sponsor) they are one of the cheapest or the link Beez posted seems like a really good price, but I don't know that company and can't speak for them on reliability. Another cheaper source is Linens-n-Things

edit: FYI if you order from LLL you have to specify you want a T8 or you may get a T12 sent to you.
