Open mouth usually means she is too hot and thermoregulating. What brand/wattage of lights are you using? 70-75 is not hot enough to cause this and could be bumped up a bit (between 80-85) for her basking temps. There is a small chance that mouth gaping could be a respiratory infection. Do you hear a "popping" noise when she opens/closes her mouth? I would say it is the ambient temperatures that are causing this though.
Also, if you do have a Maroantsetra panther (there is no way to know in females), then I would say it is worth more than an average female panther (they go for $275 on flchams FYI). Maroantsetra is a locale that is not as common as the others, so I would say you got a deal
well the temp thing is at the bottom so if i put it at the top its 80ish close to 85 and no noise if she is just in the livin room with no heat light r anythin she dnt do it only outside and in her cage ........ how could i ever find out what type panther and just askin do u know how big she will get and u think for sure girl right and the other person says they do bite she seems nice do u know if it hurts i dnt see no teeth i sure she has some she eats good she is strong little feet to and strong tail she hangs by one foot and tail she is a trip she has only got big neck is what i called it once but i think she was only scared but i wonder how big she will get
I am 100% certain you have a female. They tend to stay a bland orange/salmon/pink colored, as opposed to some spectacular colors you can see on males. The ONLY way to identify what type of locale you have would be to breed it with a pure Maroantsetra male, and if the male offspring were pure and not a hybrid of something else, then you know what kind of female you have. A lot of work and waiting! I wouldn't concern yourself with what type of locale you have because of this reason.
Females stay smaller than males when full grown and get up to about 12 inches snout to end of tail. They will only bite when they feel threatened and stressed. Trust me, you will know when she is pissed off. She will be turn dark colors/black and start gaping/hissing at you, warning you to back off. If you approach her with a finger she will probably strike. It doesn't hurt that bad, but it would probably hurt your 10 y/o. They have a single row of tiny (albeit sharp) teeth
As long as she has light/neutral colors when you are handling her you have nothing to worry about! Seems like you have a pretty chill/docile cham. Congrats
And yes, chameleons are a trip. I get lost staring at mine for hours on end.
well she has not did that yet and i got 4 kids lol i even have her in front of the mirror and she cool with seenin another she is a laid back one for sure she just likes to chill she is clam so u think she is around 4 or 5 months when do i need to worry about this egg thing so if i dnt have a male what do i do with them just throw them away i guess i am in over my head here huh well i guess my baby girl just got lucky she wanted it real bad she thinks she is to cute and the family member i got her from was not ready for her at all kinda of a long story but he wanted me to buy her for what he had in her for my little girl and there was no way i could of and my little girl gave him her 25 bday money and told him the rest could be a gift he said ok she was diff happy so i couldnt say no she been doin alot on her own she gets her food and she likes to hand feed her i got some paper with that name on it but he got it wet so i dnt know if i am even right i know what he paid but either way i just wanna do what she needs i needa go find a light uvb but i do take her out everyday for sunlight will she be ok
I think she might be older, but that's just my opinion. Females can start producing eggs even when 6 months old, so if you don't know for sure how old she is I would recommend to start thinking about the laying bin now. It isn't always easy to recognise if a female is gravid. They can get 'gravid colors', they can gain weight, but sometimes they might not show any signs, so it's best to always have laying bin prepared.
Also you haven't said any thing about dusting (unless I missed it). You need to buy plain calcium and dust your feeders every day. Beside that you should have multivitamins and D3 which you should use twice a month.
hey i have a calcium dust i put on her food she dnt act like she is very happy with lol but i give it every other day she is small still she is around 6 in tail in all her body is like as long as my finger ....?? she has a little bump where her butt is ????? is tha a male i know all the females i see looks like her and she likes huggin my finger is tha ok
So she came from FLChams? Did your family member get her online? If they did, have them look for the email so that you can confirm her locale.
Can you fill this out? It will be much easier if all the info is in one spot. Use as much detail as possible. Also try to spell everything out completely and use punctuation (it's easier to get help that way.) Just copy and paste it into a new reply and answer the questions.
