what to feed our new veiled chameleon

So my boyfriend and I bought a young female veiled chameleon and I don't know what to feed her. I know they eat crickets, mealworms, grasshoppers, ect. But I would like to know what else she can eat. I've read different things on different sites and I'm not sure what is right or wrong. So can somebody give me a list of SPECIFIC fruits and vegetables that we can feed her? And can she eat bite size pieces of pears? Please get back to me.

There staple diets are crickets, silkworms, locusts, calciworms, hornworms (rather large so wait until she's much older) and dubia roaches

Things such as meal worms and wax worms, these are NOT a regular staple food, fed as a treat, maybe 2 a month if that, some chameleons can become addicted and not eat their staple foods, meal worms and wax worms are like the equal to candy basically.

Veg should be fed more often than fruit, mine doesn't won't eat fruit or veg but you can feed red bell peppers, carrots, collards, small pieces of melon, raspberries and blue berries (not many) There is probably more but can't think right now

Forgot to ask, how old is she? Remember she'll require a laying bin when she's older (if she's a baby now)

We aren't sure. We got her from petsmart and they had her for about two weeks. And can they eat pears? I read on a few websites that they can. We have lots of pears at the house so I just wanted to know. :)

I can't see why not, pears shouldn't cause harm to her in small amounts. I wanted to ask since you got her from a pet store, did you get all the right lighting such as a 5.0 UVB and basking lamp? And the calcium with and without D3?

We have lights. But not the calcium. We have to wait until his next paycheck because we ran out of money. And thank you for the welcome and the links. :) this is our first.

And I have one more question, we got her four days ago and she still won't let us touch her or even come near her. I was just wondering if we should just keep hand feeding her and hoping she will come out of her shell? Or is this something we are going to have to get over? I really want to be able to hold her and stuff. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Best to leave her alone for a week to settle in before trying any handling anyway........later hand feed and try to entice her out of her cage onto your hand - female veileds are usually more hungry than scared when they have settled in. A Chameleon should not really be handled more than is necessary though, especially if she is a nervous one, like mine...........

Welcome to the forums. :)

I just want to stress the importance of calcium - Please get is as soon as possible. It is absolutely crucial for baby and juvenile chams.
