well i noticed a couple of days ago that my male veiled is eating the substrate on purpose for some odd reason. any ideas or solutions on why hes doing that?

What substrate is it? Maybe he is seeing little insects down there? I would remove it - normally chams don't need substrate anyways - it's more bother than it's worth. Plus if he eats too much it might block up his insides and cause an impaction, which will land you with a hefty vets bill at least, and in the worst case it could kill your chameleon.

I agree with Miss Lily. Get rid of the substrate. Your cage will be much eaiser to clean without it and it will be much safer for your cham.

Just use a paper towel on the bottom of the cage. The substrate will grow bacteria and can cause impaction.

i agree with miss lily to if u really need the tank looking good rather then paper towel ...the best thing i use for my beardies and my chams is repti carpet its sold and most petstores ...this will allow the cham not to digest bad things while trying to eat ....

I have sealed an offcut of vinyl flooring into the bottom of my vivs - looks much nicer than the bare floor and is just as easy to clean!:D
