Corn plants are listed as safe on this site, however, read the 'cons', listed to the right of each species. Personly I wouldnt use it, if only because large broadleaf types like that offer little in the way of substantial branches, so many times ive seen mine try to 'grab' a large leaf (which wont support its weight) and nearly take a dive.

In general...NEVER choose plants just because they 'look nice' ! Its not worth having a fatal reaction if your cham ingests a toxic plant!

does Anyone specially seek out plants native to their chams natural range?

cool thanks. it was cheap, and on the off hand it might be safe i bought it, and just added it into my viv

if i knew what plant were naturally in his eco then i would, but just native plants in Yemen wouldnt be right

(my little guy is really good at testing things before he walks out on them, but i could see why you would need to worry

I have one of those in my veileds cage. I also have many climbing branches all around so its not his only thing to walk on. I choose that plant because of the big leaves figuring it would catch a lot of water when the mister goes off instead of it spraying all on the cage floor.. It has worked out swell

Yeah, I can see myself going broke importing plants from Yemen :p

Why on earth would you need to import them? Any large commercial nursery
will have stock from all over the world anyway, most plants we buy for gardens etc are not native anyway.

Its just a matter of finding out what species of bush/shrub etc grow in the wadis of yemen, that cant be too hard with the internet.
Once you know the correct scientific names, the nursery will know if they have them, or who does have them.
No particular reason they should be expensive or difficult to obtain, some are almost without doubt
already regularly cultivated in your country/state somewhere, perhaps as ornamental garden shrubs or something.
Afterall, do you know where pothos plants originate? These are quite common everywhere in the world. Who ever thinks much where their garden shrub or houseplant is native to? I know I didnt, ...till I got A cham anyway :) For all I know theres something native to yemen in the garden next door.

I just wondered if anyone did that?, not nessarily to avoid exotic plant toxidity, but just to create a more natural enclosure enviroment?
For instance, there may be flowering plants that they eat when they bloom?
might be nice to provide something they instinctively recognise.
Unfortunately its not so easy or cheap or nessesarily even possible (quarantines) to do this with insects found in yemen (shame)

:)

i can with out a doubt find native plants from yemen, but what ones are actually in their region. just like anywhere else a country has a very broad selection of plants. so what forest ect may have a lot to do with it. if i knew all of that i probably would have, but for 5$ from lowes i couldnt pass it up even if it ment having as a house plant

Docility, Your new plant is great. I have a Fishers that absolutly loves something very simular to yours. He sleeps In it/on it every night. So go for it see how the Chameleon you have will enjoy it.
Here is the guy enjoying his simular plant.

You just like plants alot Huh? Cool :) Ive heard plants really thrive if you sing to them every morning ! They prefer classical music over heavy metal though apparently. :)

hes sleeping on it as well =) so its good! i really like how after i mist it, it will continue to hold water on its leaves for a good 4+ hours. so if hes thirsty there is always something for him

Jojackson, I never sing to any plants :D but! My sterio plays most the day. Harder rock, to heavy type stuff, And the plants and Chams Thrive>

Yes the big leaves work well for that. Provide a few other branches and such for walking around on. Plus those broad leaved plants promote better humidities. Here Is the guy aboves, Girlfriend, getting ready for bed just taken tonight, same plant.

Edit: There is also a huge free range setup with large Ficus, Shefelera and such, just off camera. But for some reason they seem to really like this plant for hanging out in and sleeping.
