My chameleon is supposed to lay eggs today its about a month. I found 4 eggs that are all deformed except for one that looks semi normal but of course it was the first one I found and dropped it on the cage bottom. I found 2 in the trees 1 on her laying bin and one on the ground. They are dried out and yellowish except for the one I dropped that looks normal but I think there is no hope for it after dropping it. I dont know whats happening, I was wondering if having her laying bin soil a little too moist could cause her not to want to lay but everything is the same as her first time. Whats going on?

What kind of chameleon?

I am guessing she does not like something about the laying bin. I have had the same thing happen.

The yellowish dried out eggs were probably dropped before you noticed them and dried out. Might have even got water on them. They good egg could be perfectly fine. I have an entire clutch incubating that was dropped this way.

Ah, good morning Ryan, you've beat me to it.

Save the normal looking one. It may still be OK even after dropping it.

The others, if they were yellow, were likely not fertile. (But as Ryan said, they may have been out there a while)

SOme girls won't lay in soil that is too moist. You could try changing the soil, but the risk is that if she is wandering about her cage dropping eggs you may not want to disturb her. When do you think she laid these 4?

It is better that she is expelling the eggs, even if it is into her tree, rather than retaining them. Has she settled down or is she wandering about her cage?

Alright Il keep the one egg, im going out right now to go get some better drier soil. Shes a panther chameleon...

I noticed her yesterday and today more active around the cage but now shes just in her tree, so I think its ok to take her bin out to change out the soil.

That is a great point :)

What I did with my girl that did this is change the bin at night when she seemed to get ready for bed. She laid the last 12 eggs in the dirt the next morning.

Alright shes got a new laying bin with peat moss, vermiculite, sand and some water. Shes still in her plant and well see. Should I put her in her bin or no?

she'll find it and know what to do.

but...

Just yesterday I set one of my girls in the laying bin when I put it in yesterday and she started to dig as soon as I was out of site. I couldn't believe it. She must have been really ready.
