looks like a female jackson my friend....just searched up chameleons native to africa and first thing that popped up is jackson? idk if this is true but it looks like a female jackson chameleon:D

thats a nice thing u did for this chameleon:)

Oh okay, I thought it might have been a natal midlands dwarf chameleon, I know there is a protected species of chameleon in the area, just not sure which species

No, that's not a Jackson's. I don't know what it is, but I don't think that's a Jackson's female. Someone here will know, I'm just not that well versed on different species.

Same just making an educated guess :D

Lol we're both shooting in the dark! I couldn't tell you what it is. I imagined someone else would have popped in by now, there are quite a few members that seem to know every cham species out there. I really only feel really familiar with a handful.

Its definitely a Bradypodion species. My guess would be thamnobates also.

Thanks so much for the reply man, it has the same features, (spikes and spots and also the hood on his head is small) just wanted to confirm it, I'll look after him for a month or so and get him nice and fat then release him Lol, he is in my greenhouse at the moment I'll just feed him crickets and locusts.

If he was common I would keep him, think it's better to release him tho. Thanks guys

Welcome!

You guys in South Africa are so lucky to have random chameleons in your yard! :p

Thanks for the welcome man, yea you see them every now and then, not as often as I would like too lol.

not midlands

this is not a midlands dwarf cham.
If it is, he/she isnt looking too healthy. It is a specie of DWARF chameleon though

Nope, that isn't a female Jackson's Chameleon (Trioceros jacksonii) or a Natal Midlands Dwarf Chameleon (Bradypodion thamnobates). T. jacksonii live in Kenya and Tanzania and B. thamnobates live at higher elevations closer, not in the Durban area. That is a KwaZulu Dwarf Chameleon (Bradypodion melanocephalum).
