What is happening to my chameleon?

This weird thing has been forming in the front of his head for a week or so now, Thought it was shedding at first but it's turning orange and I am beginning to get concerned. He is a male veiled about a year and a half old. Any information or diagnosis would be helpful. We do not have access to a vet right now. Please help!

That is a very common place for them to get a burn from their basking lamp. You will probably need to raise the lamp up higher off the screen or use a lower wattage.

Is his casque always that puffy or is this part of the change you are seeing? Maybe it would save some time if you answered some husbandry questions. There are some topical ointments that could help.

• Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon?
• Feeding - What are you feeding your cham? What amount? What is the schedule? How are you gut-loading your feeders?
• Supplements - What brand and type of calcium and vitamin products are you dusting your feeders with and what is the schedule?
• Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? How often and how long to you mist? Do you see your chameleon drinking?
• Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites?
• History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you.

Cage Info:

• Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions?
• Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule?
• Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps?
• Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity?
• Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind?
• Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor?
• Location - Where are you geographically located?

A good treatment for burns is silvadene cream (silver sulfadiazine) just don't get it in the eyes or mouth.

Are you sure that it's a burn and that it couldn't be anything else? I'm just confused because most burns on the internet look grey/black and he is going from white to orange.

Oh my goodness I was so focused on the white/orange line that I didn't even notice in between his eyes getting black and grey. Yes I am certain now that this is a burn. Thank you so much. Do you know where I could get that cream?

This is not as strong as what your Vet would give you but it is good for first aid.

I’ve never seen a burn that color although I do agree with both of, everything else says burn.

OP- I need different angles( preferably right side up) of his casque and a pic of the entire viv.
