what is best for the bottom of the enclosure?

paper towels? craft felt? reptile carpet? newspaper? i’ve heard so many different things! what’s best?

They don't smell anymore than a houseplant smells. Up close it is like a forest as mentioned. I enjoy it.

I've literally thrown a bag of soil over the bottom for some enclosures, that's technically bioactive. If it smells, your plants will be dead too, so it's kind of hard to mess up.
