What do you guys and gals think of Leaf?

He's definately a looker:cool:

Veilds do have an amazing grip don't they!

He's got a huge belly too. I've never seen that before.

He's a good looking boy. Has a lot of character. Nice and full in his face, casque, and legs. We have a typically thin male veiled, and then we have a somewhat chubby male veiled, as well. Yours is of the nice fleshed-out variety. Is he a big eater? What does he like to eat? What does he weigh?

Hes kinda fired up, i showed him the mirror for a sec and he got all proud and defensive, his stomach only looks like that when hes pissed!

(lazy question ) hey guys are there noticeable color differences between
C. calyptratus calyptratus & C. calyptratus calcarifer?

I see. He was looking "large" for you. According to Chris Anderson: "Ch. calyptratus calcarifer is a hybrid between Ch. calyptratus and Ch. arabicus. I don't think the subspecies has been officially wiped off the lists yet though even though the indication is that its just a hybrid."

Thats weird that you think hes large right now, hes actually the thinest ive ever seen him. He actually went through a bit of a hunger strike in dec ( im guessing the cold ) so hes thin right now, thats part of why his stomach looks like that, its kinda loose skin. But hes coming back now that he can get back to spending a couple days of the week outside in a palm in my yard. Im just not feeding his as much, i cant imagine gaining that much weight too soon can be good

He eats crix, supers, and meal. Mostly crix ( i feel the most confident gutloading them), he will cup feeed, hand feed, and free range. hes for sale for right now, but if i cant find a good buyer ill post more pics when hes full size in a couple weeks.

Thanks for the compliments you guys, i'm glad hes worth a look.

I havent really seen a veiled with all those colors, the turquoise hes red lines running through it, making it look like marble. Hes got the yellow, orange, red, baby blue, turquoise, black, white you name it.

Lost lake has some stunning red and orange Florida WC on his website. Would love to have some offspring of these.

just so you know if you copy and paste the last box in photobucket

lol, thanks dean. Its funny you mentioned that, I actually am a couple hundred feet away. This chameleon was radiated during incubation, hes actually the size of a small yacht!!!!!

Let me know if u need help with focusing, so it doesn't look like you smeared vaseline all over your lens when you took your avatar pic. haha

he looks very nice, but a bit chubby - fat is bad for chameleons. While they look more impressive when they're "filled out", it's not good for them. Fatter chameleons (reptiles in general) do not live nearly as long as thinner ones.

How much does he eat per day? For comparison, my big male veiled, when healthy and in his prime, would eat 1-2 insects per day. He was about 18" long and 150 grams.

Thanks eric
He is by no means fat now, and hasnt ever been fat. What appears to be fat, tummy, or budge is only present when he is in defensive positions. Even when he satellites his body that budge isnt visible. Hes just trying to look bigger than he is, and from a diff angle you can see that budge is not a budge at all but very thin.

Trust me you guys, every time i adopted out a rescued cham people freaked out at how detailed i was in the care of the chams.

he doesnt have a reg feeding schedule, because he lives in a 65 gal screen, also free ranges in my living room, and also outside in a palm in my front yard

aprox: 1-3 lg crix daily, maybe a super and a mealy, he'll take fuzzies once a month

hes very, very active.....he struts around all the time

I wasn't talking about his belly. It's his feet and tail base - they seem very thick. Also, his casque is slightly bulged out. He's thick, not obese, but on the chubby side.

The thing outward signs (thick tail and feet, bulging casque) can indicate an internal problem - fat storage in the liver - which can be bad. how long is he and how much does he weigh?

His food intake ~ 3 insects per day, is not bad. If he was fat, I'm sure he'll stabilize whit that quantity. IF he ever goes on a hunger strike, start offering 3 insects every other day.

A good indicator that you're NOT overfeeding a chameleon is that they almost NEVER go on a hunger strike.
