They are ultra rare and as you can imagine expensive.

Thank you for the compliments. :D That is our chameleon, Azure, pictured in this thread. ToddMKeller called it right. He is a purple bar Ambanja. BlueBeastReptiles produced his clutch. We have had him since winter of 07/08. That photo was, I guess, taken off of our website? :) Thank you for the publicity. Below is an earlier photo of him when he was still developing his colors (you can see that he is all Ambanja in those photos). Funny thing about him is that he sheds that yellow lip line when he sheds, and then it comes back shortly after each shed. He often looks very deep blue-on-blue when at rest now. With neon blues on his casque and throughout his body. He fires up red white and blue, with purple bars. When people come over to see our chameleons, he is the one that gets the most ooohs and aaaahs.

For an Ambanja he doesn't have a real longs snout, but it is very beefy, and well decorated, with pinnacle-shaped scales along the edge.

I have two 5 month olds out of Hannibal pictured above and they are blue blue blue... You just never know how they are gonna look till they are fully mature... Good luck with finding a sweet purple bar.

See ya,

Todd

I have bred a couple of chameleons before. It is our experience that you can selectively breed all that you want, but there is no plan that will give you purple outside of prayer. Of those animals that may show some solid purple bars as they mature, many of those will eventually lose it as well, as the colors drift, and most animals drift as they mature. IMMHO, no one can sell you a "guaranteed purple" bloodline. They can sell you a bloodline that has produced purple bars in Ambilobes or Ambanjas, which I believe are the only Locales capable of pedigree purple barring worth mentioning. I think you'd have more success with a magic marker :)

Just to be clear, as my post may have allowed for some misinterpretation. Purple bars obviously do happen. In a few animals, purple bars will mark their entire existence. It is just exceedingly fleeting, and subjective.

Here's a pic of Vinyarion - Gizmo's Sire, showing his purples. Sorry it's so small, but you can still see the purples. If I remember correctly, the last time I spoke with Liddy (back in 08'), she mentioned the purple bars, I believe that they were breeding towards some purple barred ambanja's.

Then it stands to reason that producing them wont be that easy dosent it!
Genetics is a little more advanced than putting two together and 'hoping', LOL
Genes dont behave like paint.
