It doesn't have the usual grasshopper head... I think i found it though. A type of katydid.

Its a kind of Katydid. We have a similar species here in Central California. They are a grass Katydids. They are normally brown not green.

I actually found 4 (similar species) of those today.

If I catch grasshoppers and katydids for Calais how would I feed them? He doesn't have an enclosure really he has my whole porch, and I hate when they jump and especially fly! Also if I have a huge yard and there are no pesticides should I worry about gutloading? I have almost and acre, so it would take grasshoppers at least a day to come from someone else's yard.

Edit: I guess I could actually put him in his spare cage outside and toss in the grasshoppers as I find them?

Thats funny I found a wild locust in my backyard and since I didn't want to feed him to my chameleon I kept him. His name is Winston lol he eats like a pig omg. He is in a cricket tote right now, but I might make him a habitat for fun lol

LOL and no problem. I normally only see the adults. I could not say were the nymphs live.

when i lived with my parents i used to find the babies in tall grass real close to the back of my parents house where the sun shown the brightest all day. they avoided the shaded ares.

this may sound mean. but i used to catch them for my common fence lizards, garter snakes, and my snapper. just use a small pair of scissors and cut their wings in half (front and back half not side to side) they still try to fly but cant and all the movement excites the animals

In dense grass. They will drop from their "perch" at any sign of danger, and hide in the bottom of the foliage. They are the hardest ones to catch, for me anyhow. The brady's love them though.
I find them more often in shady areas here in NC.

I take scissors and clip the long stick portion of their hind legs off. In addition to using them for jumping, they have super strong "feet" on these legs especially, which can make them next to impossible to remove from screen mesh, for you, and your chameleon.

I just found this guy on my porch, hardly see any this big really, hes 3.5" from face to wing-tip:

Thank you. Unfortunately its a little big for me to use as a feeder, but hopefully I can find more (smaller ones).

don't recommend wild feeding of insects. They could have some sort of pesticide on them or any outside ailments. Feeders bought from pet stores or online are raised free of any outside ailments. just a recommendation for the health of your chameleon :D
Good luck!
