What could be wrong?

:confused:I was watching my male 5 month Nosy Be and he climbed down his top vine and shot his tongue out and missed a cricket by a few inches, there was only 1 cricket left so i took him out and put 3 more crickets in the cup. When i tilted the cup so he could see in he ran across my arm and got on the lid of the cup and leaned in so far he basically bit the cricket to get it. He did the same thing to get another cricket, could he have hurt his tongue by straining it too far? If he strained his tongue what can i do to make it better?

I believe they can strain their tungues by missing their target. And time is only cure just keep cup feeding him so he dosnt have to strain far to get his food. He should start increasing the distance on his own when it starts to feel better.
What kind of lights do you use?

5.0 UVB and a uva buld for basking. i do cup feed him but he tried to hit the crickets in the cup from his vine which is a very far distance.

Was this a sudden loss of tongue control, or did it gradually get worse? Did his aim slowly get worse, or did it just suddenly happen?

Very sudden, idk if it was just a fluke thing cuz i went in there and saw him catch a cricket in the cup by shooting his tongue a couple of inches

What do you supplement with and how often?
What do you feed your insects?
What's the basking temperature (where he sits)?

Tongue problems can be caused by infection, injury, calcium issues and several other things.

Sometimes chameleons can get lazy if they're being cup fed. Try free ranging them. See what happens after a week or two of free ranging.

He also could have hurt it.

Reptivite with d3 and without, every feeding without d3 with d3 every third
Basking temp is 86 to 90 and i feed the crickets flukers orange cubes

Ha ha ha well if he hurt it, wouldnt it be a bad idea to free range him? he wouldnt be able to get n e or he might further injure his tongue.

a Sudden tongue problem suggests strain or injury, to me. Cup feeding in the short term is a good idea. If problem doesnt improve or gets worse, see a vet.

btw - you might want to gutload your crickets with fresh fruit, veggies, etc rather than just using those orange cubes. and Do you use a vitamin supplement at all?

I have a cham that came to me with the same issue. I figure she injured it. Even with the problem, 8 mths later, shes doing great. Hope everything works out for ya.

Minerall or something like that, im too lazy to go to the other room and get the right name :)

Lol weirdly enough he is now using his tongue fine, i hear the little ding, when his tongue hits the bottom of the cup to get the cricket, so i guess he was just REALLY hungry so he dimolished 2 crickets really fast. Lol wel at least hes not hurt :)
