What can I feed my chameleon instead of insects just for a week

I know this sounds horrible , but I am not able supply my new chameleon with insects. I live in jordan - amman (middle east ) and we are experiencing unusual cold weather with blizzards. I bought a chameleon in some poor conditions Last night not knowing that it feeds mostly on insects. I can provide some but not in this weather. Please note that our pet stores are of poor conditions and have owners of little to no knowledge about the creatures they are selling what so ever. We do not have places that sell crickets or worms or anything of that sort. I can find some myself but not now . What can I do in the meantime to feed her.

What a perdicament, what kind of chameleon do you have? I've seen veileds take newborn baby mice before, and some chameleons are also semi herbvorious, you can't mail order insects in Jordan? I do this when my local stores don't have what I need. Can you identify your species?

Yes I think it's a flap neck chameleon. I gave her some banana squish but I don't the she's interested. What kind of leaves could interest her?

Hmm I'm pretty sure flap necks strickly eat insects,
You can't get earth worms from a fishing shop? You really need to find some insects somewhere.

That was my suggestion. Do you have any fishing shops that sell live bait? Could you buy worms or snails at an aquarium store? Anything at this point will have to do.

Do they sell fried silkworms in Jordan (as human food) in Chinatown? If so, maybe you could buy the live ones.

A few times a year, we have new members from the Middle East who struggle to find live insects for their chameleons. I really hope you are able to get her through this cold season. When you can collect some live insects, maybe you can establish a breeding colony of cockroaches. I wish I had more advice for you :(

Until you are able to get insects, try strained baby food. You will need to water down the strained meat as it is too high in protein. Add a little pedialyte. It is make for infants but will help your cham also. Best of luck. Let us know how it goes.

Your chameleon sounds like it's having a serious rough time. You can try Critical care formula until your chameleons begins to feel better. In the mean time look for some insects, have you tried craiglist? maybe there is a local breeder near you.

earth worms from the fish shop would be ideal although expensive.

Did you buy this cham from a shop? I wonder what they expected their customers to feed these animals? If you have a garden you may be able to dig up some grubs or other insects. Even though its cold, you might have some luck attracting flying insects to a porch light outdoors at night. Chams will also eat spiders (assuming they are not too large).
