oh thank god i was giving her calcium with d3 for a couple weeks cause i was stupid and felt horible when i got myself and stoped right away now i give her calcium with out d3 and phosporus free every day except on sundays i swap out calcium with d3 and her vitamin powder i would look to tell u the exact names of the suplements but i keep her in my bed room and its her bed time so my lights are off too

Chameleons have salt glands at their noses to excrete excessivley minerales. First of all these white crystals contain potassic and natrium, not calcium. They can save water this way.

You can't really overfeed a chameleon with calcium supplements given orally as long as the chameleon gets a good supplementation of Vit. D3 and UVB lightning, because the orally too much fed calcium then leaves the animal via feces.

I don't agree with this statement. If I remember correctly can't over supplementation lead to calcification of organs and edema? I also remember reading that too much D3 can lead to tongue problems.

But to help with the OPs question. Chameleons don't get colds the way humans do, when they get sick in the sinus/lungs it's more or less a pneumonia. Signs of a respritory infection in chameleons generally includes: popping, wheezing when breathing, excess mucus and/or bubbles within the mouth, if it's really bad some chams will gape and breath with an open mouth just to try to get enough air.

Read up on gutloading and proper supplementation, there are multitudes of articles available that will educate you enough to determine how to properly tweak your regiments based on your set up

I'll try to explain the differences easily and hopefully you will understand my weird english ;).

I said: An over supplementation only with calcium does not result in any problems, because it's eliminated via feces (= not resorbed in the gut). As long as D3 level's well . The chameleon body can produce D3 via UVB lightning or he gets D3 via supplementation by the owner. If the animal has a good D3 level, calcium will leave the gut without being changed or resorbed at all (D3 controls calcium resorption from the gut). So you can't overdose calcium as single supplementation while keeping an optimal D3 level.

What you mean is a D3 hypervitaminosis, which is an ill situation for the body. More D3 means more calcium resorption in the gut and forces bones to release calcium, too. This leads to signs of metabolic bone disease (looks same if you feed too less calcium/D3, which mostly causes mbd), renal calcinosis or calcification of other viscerals. The reason ist not an overdosage of calcium, but of D3.

Cool man, I appreciate you educating me. Thanks for the details.
