besides the normal crickets, supers, and pheonix...are moths ok? or grasshoppers
depends on the moth.
supers are more of a treat food.
hornworms are good for hydration.
grasshopers are good, but make sure they arent the poisonous kind.
I feed my 3 chams-
Hornworms
crickets
waxworms (treat)
silkworms (good staple feeder)
a super once or twice a month
Pheonix worms- daily, great calcium in them
where is a good place to get them...and how much do jacksons eat?
So Hornworms are softer than Super... Can a smaller cham (veiled ~3.5mo) eat a larger Horn? Can Hornworms crawl up the side of feeding cups (plastic deli cup)
supers have a hard exoskeleton, hornworms, are just green caterpillars.
supers are harder to digest becuase of that.
smaller chams can eat horns.. great for hydration, but not too large for them...
but they grow super super fast. i have some that are fatter than my pinkier finger.
they havnet climbed my cups.. or my plastic bins i keep them in.
Ok, I'll have to try some of the Horns out. If the worm gets too big can a Cham choke? or will he just ignore it / spit it out.
i dont think hornworms are smll enough for a 3.5 month supers are beter then wax worms aare i actually give mine suppers sorta often and limit the mount of wax and meal worms wax are very fatening and meals are higher in chiten then supers are. another worm no one mentioned was butter worms high in calcium and fat tho so limit those id say like once a week or once every2 weeks. ill warn t=you i havent found a really small worm other them the pheonix my boys about 6 months not a jackson but still and im just now giving him silks which is a great staple but there big and grow really fast
Thanks for the input. My guy really likes Superworms, he really prefers them to crickets now so Im not going to feed them to him for several days. I attempted to feed him the Dubia (sp?) roaches but I dont think he liked them. He always ignores them in his feeder dish.
So Im looking for another staple, I personally dont like crickets, so if there is another option that a little guy could have id be willing to try.
they will most likely just ignore it or spit it out.
and to whereswaldo- you can buy baby worms... ive had several cups come in that the worms were an inch long. perfect for a 3.5 month old.
I also bought baby silkworms, perfect for smaller chams.. my hoe is almost a year old and cant do big bugs... but he can do the baby silks.
So silk worms are good too? as a staple or just as a treat (like wax and super)? any difuculties with the care for the Horn or Silk worms? I dont think I can kill the supers if i tried!
I just made the switch to B.Dubia roaches and its been great soo far, great staple feeder. The colony Dubia of alll sizes and my Chams prefer them over crix.
I got about 20 little (size of fingernail) Dubia, but after I dust them, and they are sitting in the feeder dish, I dont think Tobias can see them very well because of the lack of movement and how they blend in after the dusting. So I still have 15 or so sitting in my feeding drawer next to my superworms and crickets.
where are you ordering small horns from? only reason i dont think silks are good for someone with small chams is cause in 3 or 4 days there huge. i have a whole cup of worms im terrified to feed cause those suckers are really really big especially if you try to go with the rule about not feeding foods wider then the eyes
i have heard people putting in a superworm or 2 in with them to disturb them to keep them moving.
Tried that, Tobias will eat the worm, and then leave. I left the roaches in there for 2 days with neg results.
