I couldn't believe what I seen, Poor little guy, it had to be about 4-5 months old, entire body very brown and shedding in a cubby no bigger then 12 inches by 12 inches by maybe 12 inches high, at eye level. I felt so bad and just wanted to steal it and make it better... Why do they even sell them if they don't know how to take of them themselves... Guess I'm just venting because to me that is cruelty to animals if I ever saw it.

While the pet trade has come a long way from the 80's-90's, lizards are still labeled as disposable pets. In all fairness, the lizards seem to be getting the same treatment as the puppies. At least now most stores will have uv lights, powdered crickets, and chams in my area get a bump in humidity. Now the quality/age of the lights and powder...

Hey ALL animals sold are loss leaders to get you in the door so you will buy lights and food and toys and....

If they wanted to sell Chameleons, at lease take one of the cages off the shelf and and all the stuff for them set up correctly and make it look appealing to people to buy it... Personally I don't know what person would buy a very brown, peeling veil that looks very sick to begin with. it had no humidity at all.

That's what I always said. Get a big reptibreeze cage set it up with vines, fogger, lights, dripper. Live and fake plants, everyone who walks in is going to want to buy ALL the items from the store probably in a bundle.

We also have a petco and they have a chameleon set up that is actually nice and the chameleons that were in it seemed pretty happy, (watched 1 eat) but they had a dripper, a mister and the lighting, they just looked happier. It was not the biggest setup but alot bigger then petsmart and the chameleons were beautiful green. The only reason I was at petsmart was I was buying crickets and it is closer to my house, But for now on it's petco I will go.

I used to do exactly this for a small mom-pop pet shop. We first got to know each other when I started getting feeders there, started chatting about chams and ideas about their care. Then I took home a female jax who wasn't doing well in their store because it was too warm and dry. She recovered (but they just gave her to me) and we decided to try assembling entire setups for one or two chams they'd get in stock. Several times a customer bought everything as a package, or we'd give them a list of all the equipment in the display and how to order it. It was a really fun relationship.
