weird behavior

Hello,
I have a nine month old male chameleon which was separated from the female two days ago. The pet store failed to tell me that they don't like to be in the same enclosure and as a result she is definately pregnant. I removed her as stated two days ago, and all seemed well.

His colours are the best I have ever seen them however, he is now behaving a little weird. He is wobbling on the branches kind of back and forth, and he opens his mouth. I looked for yellow or green discolouration, but it just looks white on the roof of his mouth. Maybe its nothing but this is my four year olds pet and I am hoping nothing is wrong. Please adise.

You should read the health clinic sticky that tells you how to ask for help. You need to answer some questions that tell us about your setup. We need to know wha tkind of cham they are. what they are living in, the temps, the type of lighting....

Edit: Link to the sticky

Thanks for the tip, you can always tell a beginner!

Okay he is in a mesh cage approximately 18" square and 30 " high, I have a uv light and a 100 watt heat lamp. He has plastic plants, and I mist the cage twice a day. He has a dish to drink from which is replenshed daily. I feed him four to five crickets twice daily and calicum coat twice weekly.

He has been fine, up until the female was removed. He is still eating and climbing around his enclosure.

Seems ok. What kind of UV? linear tube or a compact? does it screw into a socket? What kind of temps does he have in basking and ambient? take out the water dish. Mist more. Maybe buy a misting system from Herpmist.com. How long are his lights on?

I have a tubular uv light that the pet store sold us used so I dont know the wattage. the temperature in the cage is unknown as I don't have a thermometer, maybe I should get one. His lights are on from 7 am until 11 pm.

Hi lotus, welcome to the chameleon forums :)

Temperature is the most important thing. I would take care of that before worrying about anything else. Excessive temps could explain the gaping behavior.

exactly what Brad said!

A chameleon needs to sleep... So only have his lights on about 11-13 hours as the days get longer... leave his lights on longer... as the days get shorter leave the lights on less. If you are manually turning on and off the cage lights you need to get a timer. You need to get a thermometer so you can see what his basking and ambient temps are inside the cage.

You can buy a lot of things from LLL Reptile.

You should also check out Brad Ramsey's website.

I think you right regarding the temperatures, as he didn't seem to have his mouth open this morning and the room is cooler. But I am still wondering why he is wobbily? Anyone seen this kind of behavior, it is especially noticable when he is going from one branch to another and kinds of goes back and forth. Its bizzare.
Thanks
