Wattage Inquiry

I am in need of a new basking light. I was wondering what wattage everyone else uses on their cage so I have somewhat of a reference point. I have the hood resting on the top of my cage (screen). I was thinking of buying around 60W or 75W. This is the first time I would be buying a standard incandescent household bulb.

It really depends on how close your light is to your chams back when basking. I use a 60 watt and I check the temp with a temp gun. If it is too hot I raise the light or lower the branch. Sorry but I forgot the name of the gun to check temps...they aren't real expensive.

I have seen those before. I think I will buy a 60 watt and then one of less wattage (maybe 50W) and go from there. Are there any specific brands that you think are better than others?

Just a white incandesent household bulb. No colored bulbs and not a twisted. The plain incandescent put out the right heat...if you want to try two types I would buy a 60 and a 75 watt.
